Harbor
Harbor's patch train is now mostly about undoing regressions from its own security hardening.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of CircleCI and Drone — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
CircleCI is rebuilding its API for agents and filling the gaps in job lifecycle control.
CircleCI shipped API v3 last week with uniform conventions (UUID resource IDs, cursor pagination, one error format, standard rate-limit headers) and named AI agents as a target consumer, while setting a February 1, 2027 removal for ten v1/v1.1 trigger and rerun endpoints. Since then it has added teardown steps that run even when a job fails, is canceled or times out, actionable Slack approvals, and an in-app support chat. September's open preview for running GitHub Actions YAML on CircleCI compute is still the other large bet.
Drone's source now ships as Harness Open Source, and it last released in August 2025.
Both tracked releases are tagged Harness Open Source from the harness/harness repo, which is where Drone's code now lives. v3.2.0 added Git LFS, PR revert, retargeting and Code Owner auto-assignment; v3.3.0 added favorite repos, tag protection rules and a fix for a Git LFS path-traversal issue. Nothing has shipped since August 2025.

Two threads run together: consolidation of legacy surfaces (v1 endpoints, Bitbucket Data Center, old Xcode images) and new ways to reach and control pipelines (GHA YAML, API v3, Slack approvals). Teardown closes a config gap that GitHub Actions users already expect from always-run cleanup steps, which fits the effort to make migration from GHA painless. CircleCI is trying to be reachable from wherever work is triggered, with fewer reasons to leave once there.
Expect v3 coverage to expand endpoint by endpoint, with v2 deprecation notices once parity is reached, and more config-level parity features aimed at the GHA YAML preview, most plausibly non-Linux runners or secret import.

The product has moved from a CI engine toward a full code-hosting platform with PR workflows and branch/tag governance. The 14-month gap since v3.3.0 points to slow or paused open-source releases.
The entries give no sign of a next release; another quiet period is the base case.
