Buildkite sets OpenTelemetry tracing once per cluster instead of once per agent.
Buildkite is building tooling around a failing build: an MCP server that diffs against the last green build and validates pipeline YAML, a retry-only API scope, a test suite Summary with slow and flaky tests, and a canvas that expands group and matrix steps on the failed jobs. Usage APIs and spend alerts cover cost on monthly Pro plans. The latest release lets admins pick an OpenTelemetry service on a cluster so every hosted and self-hosted agent exports traces there on registration, with no per-agent OTLP config or custom image.
Grafana OnCall's open-source line is in upkeep mode: runtime pins and Helm bumps, no features.
The last four releases of Grafana OnCall's open-source build contain no user-facing changes. Two Helm chart releases in mid-2025 were followed by v1.16.10 and v1.16.11 in early 2026, which pin Python 3.12.11, update urllib3, and adjust the Telegram integration's imports. The project still ships, but only to keep its dependencies current.

The direction is CI that people and agents can operate without babysitting: narrow permissions, machine-readable failure context and status signals outside the build tab. Cluster-level tracing extends that to operations, moving observability setup from agent images to a control-plane setting exposed in the UI, APIs and Terraform.
Expect more agent configuration to move into cluster settings the way tracing did, plus further failure-first canvas and MCP work; the entries don't show which settings come next.

The cadence is slowing: two releases in summer 2025, then a five-month gap, then two patch releases two weeks apart in early 2026. Nothing in these notes points to new alerting, scheduling, or escalation work in the open-source line.
Expect more v1.16.x patches for dependency and runtime hygiene, if any arrive at all; the entries give no sign of a 1.17 or a feature release.
