Buildkite is courting GitHub Actions refugees while making itself drivable by agents.
Buildkite's recent output centres on platform-team control (pipeline-scoped secrets, an agent version support policy, usage via API) and agent access through its Remote MCP Server. Buildkite Cache in public preview filled the biggest gap against hosted CI.
Skipper fixes cache revalidation that could serve stale 404s forever.
Skipper is on a near-daily patch cadence. Recent substantive changes are an RFC 8693 tokenExchange() filter, a fade-in load-balancing path that no longer copies endpoints per request, and a fix for stale-while-revalidate caching that had left stale entries, including cached errors, unable to refresh. The rest is dependency bumps, test coverage and RFC-compliance fixes.

Two threads run in parallel: easing migration from GitHub Actions (secret migration, prompts in pipeline settings) and exposing more of the platform to AI agents via MCP. Governance features like the support policy and usage API point at larger enterprise accounts that need predictability.
Expect more MCP toolsets and further Actions-migration tooling; the macOS RSS feeds are explicitly framed as a first step toward configurable Slack notifications.

Skipper keeps taking on more edge responsibility (identity via token exchange, response caching) while hardening the hot path. Releases are small and frequent, so meaningful changes arrive one at a time between maintenance builds, often with production incidents as the trigger.
Expect more cache and proxy hot-path fixes, and possibly further auth filters building on token exchange; the entries don't indicate a larger release.
