What is Bonsai?

Bonsai is rebuilding itself as a CRM, and the freelancer toolkit is now the back end.

Five months of releases point the same direction: a CRM data model that separates contacts from clients and allows many-to-many links, activity feeds at both contact and company level, custom views, Zoom and now Gmail and Microsoft email and calendar sync. On top of that, Bonsai shipped an MCP connector in June and a ground-up Documents builder in July that handles proposals, contracts, signatures, pricing, and packaging in a single drag-and-drop file. Cadence is roughly monthly with substantial releases each time.

What is Unito?

Unito publishes migration and integration guides, not releases — the feed is pure demand-gen.

This feed is Unito's marketing blog rather than a changelog: two-way sync walkthroughs (Jira–Asana, Jira–Smartsheet), a competitor comparison against Getint, a webhook primer, and a pricing-model explainer. The recurring argument across posts is that teams should not have to consolidate onto one tool — sync the tools they already use instead. No product releases, version numbers, or feature announcements appear anywhere in the window.

Bonsai vs Unito: editorial side-by-side

B6.3

Bonsai is rebuilding itself as a CRM, and the freelancer toolkit is now the back end.

◆ Current state

Five months of releases point the same direction: a CRM data model that separates contacts from clients and allows many-to-many links, activity feeds at both contact and company level, custom views, Zoom and now Gmail and Microsoft email and calendar sync. On top of that, Bonsai shipped an MCP connector in June and a ground-up Documents builder in July that handles proposals, contracts, signatures, pricing, and packaging in a single drag-and-drop file. Cadence is roughly monthly with substantial releases each time.

◆ Where it's heading

Bonsai started as invoicing and contracts for solo operators and is assembling the relationship layer that sits above them — every interaction with a client captured in one timeline, then acted on from the same place. Documents and email sync are the two pieces that make Bonsai viable as the only tool an agency opens, rather than the one it exports from. The MCP connector suggests they expect that layer to be queried by an assistant as often as by a person.

◆ Prediction

The likely next step is connecting the new pieces to each other — sending Documents from a deal in the CRM, or having the MCP connector draft a proposal the way it already drafts invoices — plus pipeline reporting built on the activity data now being captured.

U5.0

Unito publishes migration and integration guides, not releases — the feed is pure demand-gen.

◆ Current state

This feed is Unito's marketing blog rather than a changelog: two-way sync walkthroughs (Jira–Asana, Jira–Smartsheet), a competitor comparison against Getint, a webhook primer, and a pricing-model explainer. The recurring argument across posts is that teams should not have to consolidate onto one tool — sync the tools they already use instead. No product releases, version numbers, or feature announcements appear anywhere in the window.

◆ Where it's heading

The content is drifting from how-to toward category positioning: the pricing-model post and the Getint comparison are both buyer-stage pieces, and the newest entry frames distributed engineering teams as the wedge. That suggests a push upmarket into multi-team, multi-tool organizations where the alternative is a forced migration. Because Unito does not publish a changelog here, the product's actual direction is invisible from this source.

◆ Prediction

Expect continued buyer-stage content around migration avoidance and connector breadth. Any real product signal will need a different source — this feed does not carry releases.
