Outline
Outline adds personal docs even admins can't open, pairing agent access with user privacy.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of Apache Answer and Teable — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Apache Answer is turning its Q&A engine into a searchable AI knowledge base, one RC at a time.
Apache Answer ships through repeated release candidates: v2.0.1 added semantic search in AI chat backed by a vector-search plugin, v2.0.2 kept model reasoning output in chat history and let admins skip email verification, and v2.0.3-RC1 moved the frontend from Create React App to Vite. Every cut also carries a long list of authorization fixes, many touching MCP content access.
Teable ships an official MCP server, letting coding agents work its tables via OAuth.
Teable ships near-daily, and the weight keeps moving to its agent layer. The October 16 release adds an official MCP server that Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other clients connect to through OAuth, with self-hosted instances serving it at /mcp and a settings page to revoke connections. Earlier releases this week added a versioned Query Library, per-workload sandbox resources, a metered scraping catalog and in-app skill activation steps. Single-line text writes now trim whitespace, a behaviour change integrations will notice.

The product is layering AI retrieval on top of its community Q&A data while hardening who can see what, including through the MCP surface. The Vite migration and Helm persistence options point to a project paying down build and deployment debt ahead of further feature work.
Expect v2.0.3 to finalize after one or two more RCs, followed by more vector-search and AI chat refinements; the cadence suggests a new minor line roughly every two months.

Teable is moving from a spreadsheet-style database with AI features toward a data backend that outside agents can operate, as well as a host for its own agents. The MCP server opens the first route for external agents, and the Query Library gives them stable, versioned reads. API strictness keeps rising, so lenient integrations will start seeing changed behaviour.
Expect MCP coverage to widen to Query Library objects and automations, with agent usage metered through the existing credit model. The entries don't say whether MCP access will be plan-gated.
