What is Browser Use?

After two weeks redrawing pricing and autonomy, Browser Use spends one on the plumbing

Browser Use is a cloud platform for browser-driving agents, and the August 23 release is a consolidation week following two consecutive directional ones. Opening a V4 session now takes a single request instead of several, shared transcripts stream in pages rather than blocking on large ones, and a session tab left in the background recovers instead of staying stuck. The one item with money attached is a billing correction: BYOK cache reads had been priced at the full input rate rather than the discounted cache rate, so bringing your own key now costs what the managed path costs. The remainder is dashboard, mobile and legacy-MCP cleanup.

Two things are now visible. The security posture around AMQP has been tightening all summer - a lower default frame size, explicit validation, a decompression fix and a temp store ceiling are all defenses against a client exhausting broker resources, and lowering a shipped default rather than documenting a limit means the project will change behaviour on existing deployments to close exposure. The second is that 6.3 has graduated: bootstrapped as its own branch on 6 August, it took the first release that no other line received three weeks later, which is what the branch becoming the development target looks like in practice.

Expect further 6.3.x-only releases while 5.19 and 6.2 receive backports of security and correctness fixes only. The AMQP resource-limit work has not obviously finished, so more hardening on that path is the likeliest next substantive change.

The last month reads as a platform absorbing its own commercial and autonomy bets. X402 metering on August 9 made the browser open the billable unit, scheduling and the Agency skill on August 16 made agents run unattended between sessions, and this week pays down what both require in order to hold: session-open latency, transcripts that survive long unattended runs, and tabs that recover when nobody is watching. The BYOK correction carries more weight than a bug fix because price parity between the managed and bring-your-own paths is the assumption the new metering rests on.

◆ Prediction

The weekly Sunday cadence and the model-picker churn - bu-2-0-mini-preview added, MiniMax M3 removed - point toward continued consolidation around its own model lineup. Whether the next release returns to new capability or keeps hardening the V4 surface is not something these entries settle.
