3CX, Wildix and Telegram each hand a front-line role to AI as Element Call drops its legacy protocol.
The week in video-conferencing
The dominant pattern is AI taking over roles that used to belong to the vendor or a human. 3CX is retiring its own cloud transcription and pushing customers toward AI Edition, Wildix made its Wilma AI the mandatory first line of partner support, and Telegram let AI bots join chats and talk to each other.
Beneath that, the infrastructure players ship protocol and operations work. Element Call removed its legacy call mode, and HOMER and Asterisk kept to release-candidate and patch cadence.
Leaders
3CX will convert remaining ENT+ licences to AI Edition in January 2027 and retire its legacy cloud transcription service. A dated migration replaces a vague retirement plan, and customers are expected to bring their own AI.
Telegram opened chats to guest AI bots users have not installed, allowed bot-to-bot conversations, and added chat automation. A second release added Welcome Messages, Buttons in Messages and Signed Gifts for running groups.
Element Call v0.25.0-rc.1 removed MatrixRTC legacy mode, so clients that have not migrated to the new protocol can no longer take part. It closes out a transition that began with multi-SFU in v0.21.
JW Player opened Broadcast Live to audio-only streams over HLS and DASH and added a DRM monitoring section to JWX Analytics.
Wildcards
Wildix paired ISO/IEC 27001, 27017 and 27018 certification with Wilma AI as mandatory L1 technical support, which the company says resolves nearly half of requests without a human.
HOMER 11.0.371 includes correlated B2BUA legs in PCAP and text exports, so one export captures both sides of a bridged call.
Themes that compounded
- AI as first responder appeared in Wildix support, Telegram bots and 3CX's bring-your-own-AI shift.
- Legacy path removal showed up in 3CX transcription and Element Call's MatrixRTC mode.
- Operational observability grew in JW Player's DRM monitoring and HOMER's export and tiering fixes.
- Several feeds in the sector carried only blog or wrong-feed content (Demio is tracking another company's blog), so activity here is thinner than the product count suggests.
Watch this week
Watch for further Element Call release candidates now that legacy mode is gone, and for more 3CX communication ahead of the January 2027 ENT+ conversion. Asterisk 24 is at rc4 with the latest round repairing regressions, so another candidate or a stable tag is the likely next step.
