BI and data tools are turning agents into the primary operator, from scheduled AI jobs to MCP write access.
The week in analytics
The BI end of the sector is converging on one idea: the agent is a user with write access. Products that began by answering questions in chat are now building dashboards, running on schedules, and editing objects through MCP. The reporting surface is becoming something an agent produces rather than something an analyst assembles.
The infrastructure end looks different. Observability and database projects mostly shipped patches and release candidates, which makes the AI-heavy BI vendors the story of the week.
Leaders
Holistics shipped AI Tasks, reusable AI jobs that run on a schedule, plus a Cost Analytics view for AI spend and a sync for Snowflake semantic views and Databricks metric views. Pairing scheduled AI with spend reporting suggests customers are already asking what the automation costs.
Omni took Apps to general availability, let MCP clients export dashboard PNGs, and added dbt on Trino, embedded routines and MCP app-management tools. Later releases added external users and conditional routines. Omni is widening who can operate it, human or not.
Basedash now builds entire dashboards from chat, with layout, tabs and variables, and its MCP server writes real artifacts from Cursor or Claude rather than only reading them. That read-to-write step is the clearest example of the week's pattern.
NocoDB listed itself in Claude's connector directory and then widened a single MCP connection to span every chosen base, with 199 tools. It also began a beta of Interfaces for building focused apps on a base.
Wildcards
Microsoft Clarity is spending its releases on AI visibility: scrape-to-referral insights for AI crawlers, page classification in Bot Activity and custom brand terms. It measures what agents do to a site rather than what people do.
Swetrix crossed from anonymous sessions to identified users with identify, setTraits and reset in tracker-js 4.5.0. Most of its category is moving the other way on identity.
Themes that compounded
- MCP moved from read to write at Basedash, NocoDB and Omni.
- Agent chat became a build surface at Hex, whose agent now creates projects and runs under published eval suites, and at Basedash.
- Governed AI got a general-availability milestone at Keboola, where Kai reached GA for multi-tenant contracted customers.
- Metrics query layers deepened at HyperDX, which added multi-expression PromQL charts and macros.
- Several projects stayed in patch cadence: TimescaleDB, OpenObserve and Countly.
Watch this week
Watch whether Holistics or Hex follows Basedash and Omni with spend controls or approval gates around agent writes, since Holistics already shipped cost reporting and Hex shipped approval skipping and eval suites in the same week. Watch Keboola's October 15 default switch for faster-waking apps, which is a dated change in the feed, and the next OpenObserve release, since 1.1.0 release candidate 1 has already appeared behind its 1.0 patches.
