Weblate ships two directional releases — workspaces plus ASGI, Mistral plus GitHub App

◆Current state
Weblate is shipping roughly one major release per month plus a patch train, a cadence it has maintained across 2026.7, 2026.8, and 2026.9. Two architectural bets dominate: workspaces (a new organizational layer grouping related projects with shared translation memory, permissions, and billing) and LLM-assisted translation (Mistral added in 2026.7, improved context in every subsequent release). The 2026.8 addition of Granian/ASGI as an opt-in deploy path signals serious attention to larger-scale deployments.
◆Where it's heading
Weblate is building toward a multi-tenant, enterprise-grade translation platform. Workspaces, ASGI production support, LLM integrations, and a native GitHub App integration are all pointing in the same direction: larger organizations with more complex permission and workflow needs. Background processing for maintenance tasks and report generation addresses scale limits that would have blocked that market. Security hardening (five CVE patches across two releases) suggests a compliance-sensitive buyer profile.
◆Prediction
Workspace billing integration will deepen, and the Granian ASGI path is likely to become the recommended production deploy. More LLM service integrations are probable given the rate at which Mistral, Anthropic, and OpenAI model lists were refreshed in 2026.7.

    Weblate 2026.9

    2026.9 adds background repository maintenance tasks (avoiding proxy timeouts), component-level VCS parameters (force-push, PR automerge), and native GitHub App migration guidance. Seven security CVEs are patched, including restricted-component access through nested API endpoints. These are meaningful quality-of-life additions but extend existing directions rather than opening new ones.
