AI-powered email client from ex-Google Inbox team

Shortwave keeps folding autonomy into the inbox, one AI action at a time.

Current state
Shortwave has moved decisively from an AI-assisted email client to an inbox that acts on the user's behalf. The assistant reads, drafts, organizes, and — via the Tasklet integration — triggers automated workflows across thousands of apps, with its work surfaced inside Shortwave rather than buried in Gmail. Every release since late 2024 has pushed more of the email workflow out of the user's hands and into the model's.
Where it's heading
The direction is a steadily widening action surface: MCP connectors to external tools, AI Memories, voice, and now trigger-based automation all frame email as an agent runtime rather than a reading pane. Model choices track the frontier closely — Claude 3.7 to Sonnet 4 to the 4.6 family — keeping capability tied to whatever the best available model can do. The team ships broadly across web, desktop, iOS, and Android each cycle.
Prediction
The next moves most likely deepen autonomous execution — more trigger types and tighter loops where the assistant acts with less confirmation — rather than adding new surface features.

Recent moves

Upgraded to Claude Sonnet & Opus 4.6

A routine but real step in Shortwave's habit of tracking the model frontier: Standard and Advanced tiers move to Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Expert to Opus 4.6, raising baseline reasoning without changing the product's shape.

Fully automate your email with Tasklet 🔗

    ⚡ SPARK

The clearest expression yet of the inbox-as-agent thesis: automated Tasklet triggers draft replies, add team comments, and file threads across 3,000+ apps, with the assistant's work shown inside Shortwave rather than Gmail.

    Enhanced AI performance & collaboration

Incremental hardening of the assistant — better context retention, faster search, smarter caching — alongside collaboration touches and Android 15 support. Consolidation, not new direction.

Integrate the AI with all your apps 🔌

    ⚡ SPARK

The moment Shortwave stopped being a closed inbox: MCP connectors let the assistant reach Notion, HubSpot, GitHub, Asana, and Linear, and AI Memories let users shape its behavior — the groundwork the later Tasklet automation builds on.

    Talk to your inbox 🎙️

Voice input and calendar editing extend how users reach the assistant, and Organize-with-AI opens to free users — broadening access to the existing action model rather than adding a new one.

Organize your inbox with AI ✨

Assistant v3 plus native macOS and Windows apps marked the shift from smart features to an AI operator that triages, labels, and manages todos — the foundation the later agentic arc extends from.
