What is Umbraco CMS?

Umbraco cuts release candidates on three branches at once and is paying down backoffice startup cost.

All three visible entries are release candidates, published across three live branches — 18.1, 17.6 and the long-term 13.16 — with 18.1 and 17.6 cut on the same day and sharing most of their pull requests. The 17.6 candidate is the substantive one: a block of backoffice performance work (coalesced JavaScript chunks, manifests embedded to cut startup requests, parallelized boot API calls, a new content index) alongside new UFM and picker components and configurable scheduled publishing. Several dependency entries are security-driven — MessagePack updated for advisories, SQLitePCLRaw pinned off a vulnerable build.

What is Rank Math?

Rank Math is quietly turning a WordPress SEO plugin into an MCP server for AI assistants.

Rank Math PRO now ships on a two-week cadence with its releases split cleanly in two. One half is an expanding catalog of rank-math/* MCP tools that let AI assistants read a site's links, schema, and keyword positions; the other is an AI-facing analytics layer — AI Visibility, AI Traffic, AI Link Genius. The classic SEO surface (schema generator, news sitemaps, email reports) is in maintenance, absorbing fixes rather than new capability.

Umbraco cuts release candidates on three branches at once and is paying down backoffice startup cost.

◆ Current state

◆ Where it's heading

Two threads run through the new-generation branches. One is making the rewritten backoffice cheap to boot, attacking request count rather than payload size — the classic sign that a single-page admin rewrite has hit its startup-latency wall. The other is filling in the component and property-editor surface (element pickers with value summaries and type validation, media thumbnails, member and element name components) so the new extension model has parts to build with. The 13.x LTS gets dependency maintenance only, which is the expected end-of-life shape.

◆ Prediction

Expect these candidates to promote to stable with the performance set intact, and the next cycle to keep extending property editors and the Management API surface rather than opening a new capability area.

Rank Math is quietly turning a WordPress SEO plugin into an MCP server for AI assistants.

◆ Current state

Rank Math PRO now ships on a two-week cadence with its releases split cleanly in two. One half is an expanding catalog of rank-math/* MCP tools that let AI assistants read a site's links, schema, and keyword positions; the other is an AI-facing analytics layer — AI Visibility, AI Traffic, AI Link Genius. The classic SEO surface (schema generator, news sitemaps, email reports) is in maintenance, absorbing fixes rather than new capability.

◆ Where it's heading

Every release since 3.0.114 has either added an MCP tool or extended one, and the AI modules are accumulating faster than the traditional SEO ones. The plugin is repositioning from optimizing for a search results page to being readable by, and measurable inside, answer engines. Rank Math is betting the next ranking surface is the assistant, and it wants to sit on both sides of that — feeding assistants structured site data and reporting back on how the brand shows up in them.

◆ Prediction

Every MCP tool shipped so far is read-only (get-top-keywords, get-link-report, get-post-links, get-post-schema), so the obvious next step is write-capable tools that let an assistant edit schema or fix links directly. Expect AI Visibility to deepen into per-platform breakdowns, since it currently reports presence without saying where.
