What is Tyk?

Tyk is in maintenance mode on four release lines at once, with 5.16 barely stirring.

Tyk's recent output is almost entirely release candidates across the 5.8, 5.13 and 5.15 branches, driven by a single dependency-and-CVE ticket (TT-18285) that bumped kin-openapi, golang.org/x/crypto, thrift and the OTLP trace exporters. The only forward-looking change is a 5.16 alpha in which the Gateway reports node metadata to the Dashboard on register and heartbeat.

What is werf?

werf exposes git provenance to build commands and auto-includes Git LFS content.

werf ships releases almost daily across its v2 alpha/beta channels and the v3 dev line. The October 12 pair, v2.82.0 and v3.9.0, exposes git source provenance to build commands and accepts unsuffixed list environment variables; v2 also gains separate metadata repositories. v3.8.0 now pulls Git LFS content into images automatically and reports registry publication failures.

Tyk is in maintenance mode on four release lines at once, with 5.16 barely stirring.

◆ Current state

Tyk's recent output is almost entirely release candidates across the 5.8, 5.13 and 5.15 branches, driven by a single dependency-and-CVE ticket (TT-18285) that bumped kin-openapi, golang.org/x/crypto, thrift and the OTLP trace exporters. The only forward-looking change is a 5.16 alpha in which the Gateway reports node metadata to the Dashboard on register and heartbeat.

◆ Where it's heading

The pattern is a vendor servicing a long tail of supported enterprise branches, backporting the same security fixes everywhere rather than shipping features. The 5.16 alpha points toward better fleet visibility between Gateway and Dashboard, a control-plane concern rather than a new API-management capability.

◆ Prediction

Expect GA patch releases for 5.13.4 and 5.15.1 carrying the TT-18285 dependency fixes, followed by further 5.16 alphas. The entries don't show what headline feature 5.16 will carry.

werf exposes git provenance to build commands and auto-includes Git LFS content.

◆ Current state

werf ships releases almost daily across its v2 alpha/beta channels and the v3 dev line. The October 12 pair, v2.82.0 and v3.9.0, exposes git source provenance to build commands and accepts unsuffixed list environment variables; v2 also gains separate metadata repositories. v3.8.0 now pulls Git LFS content into images automatically and reports registry publication failures.

◆ Where it's heading

After weeks of fix-only patches for Buildah, kubectl handling and host cleanup, both lines are adding features again, and they land on v2 and v3 the same day. The new features are about build inputs and metadata: which commit an image came from, LFS files, and where image metadata is stored. That points to supply-chain traceability as the next focus.

◆ Prediction

Expect Git LFS support to reach v2 and more provenance or metadata options on both lines. The entries don't show when v3 leaves the dev channel.
