Skipper adds RFC 9421 HTTP Message Signatures and delivers 21% RouteGroup load time improvement
A side-by-side editorial comparison of Redocly and Transmission — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Redocly ships a built-in MCP server page across its entire docs platform, with public and authenticated endpoints
Redocly just landed a coordinated 0.137.0 release across Reef, Realm, Revel, and Redoc, anchored by a structural addition: every developer portal now ships a `/mcp` page with setup instructions for Claude, ChatGPT/Codex, and raw JSON config, plus an opt-in `/mcp-public` endpoint for serving anonymous-accessible content without authentication. The MCP code mode got reliability improvements, OAuth discovery was fixed to spec (RFC 8414), and four CVEs were patched in the same release. The breadth of the drop — 20 features and 67+ bug fixes across packages — reflects a team that released a major capability and simultaneously cleared accumulated UX debt.
Transmission rewrote its RPC API to JSON-RPC 2.0 — then the 4.1 beta train stalled.
The whole visible history is the 4.1.0 beta series, running from December 2024 to January 2026 and developed in parallel with the 4.0.x bug-fix line since 2023. Across those betas the client picked up sequential downloading, a selectable µTP-versus-TCP preferred transport, proxy support for web connections, IPv6 and dual-stack UDP trackers, native platform icons, and a JSON-RPC 2.0-compliant RPC API with snake_case unified across RPC and settings.json. Feature freeze was declared at beta.5 in January 2026, and nothing has shipped since.

Redocly is repositioning every hosted API portal as a first-class AI agent resource, not just a human-readable docs site. The public MCP endpoint especially matters: it enables AI coding assistants to read API docs without credentials, which removes the main friction for developers integrating via LLM tools. Security hardening (audience validation, OAuth compliance, CVE patching) in the same release signals this isn't a prototype feature — it's going into production. The next logical step is deeper programmatic authoring via the MCP surface, not just reading.
Expect Redocly to add MCP write-path features — letting AI agents update API documentation or sync specs directly — once the read-path is fully stable. The visual review check in Reunite suggests a git-workflow integration direction.

The interesting work is at the integration boundary, not in the download engine: the RPC surface has been standardised and renamed, and beta.5 was largely spent repairing what those changes broke, including backwards-incompatible keys accidentally written into settings files. That is the cost profile of an API migration in a project with a large ecosystem of third-party remotes. With feature freeze held for seven months and no 4.1.0 final, the release is late relative to its own stated plan.
The next release should be 4.1.0 final or a further beta rather than new features, since the branch is frozen — but the entries give no signal on what is holding it.
