A side-by-side editorial comparison of Traefik and Volatility — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Traefik v3.8 rc.1 is a Gateway API release; v2.11 keeps getting security patches.
Traefik runs two lines. v3.8.0-rc.1 (2026-10-30) is mostly Kubernetes Gateway API work: ListenerSet support, client certificate validation, backend TLS policy for gRPC and TLSRoute, and TCPRoute consumed through its v1 version with Gateway API v1.5.x support dropped. It also adds per-router responding timeouts and an ACME option to reuse private keys. The v2.11 line keeps weekly-to-biweekly patches: 2.11.61 adds an entry-point limit on request header values and fixes a backend connection leak for NTLM and Kerberos.
Volatility 3 2.28.2 adds Mermaid tree output and starts deprecating macOS analysis.
Volatility 3 reached functional parity with Volatility 2 in 2.26.0, then reorganised malware plugins into their own namespace and added an arrow/parquet renderer. 2.28.0 in April brought Linux sockscan and process_spoofing. 2.28.2 in September adds a Mermaid renderer for tree relationships, lets Linux malfind dump enumerated VMAs, verifies Intel layers with translation checks, and adds a deprecation warning for macOS analysis.

Feature work sits entirely on v3, and Gateway API is its center: the release tracks upstream versions and drops older ones, so Traefik is betting on Gateway API as its main Kubernetes interface. v2.11 is a security branch; five advisories in 2.11.58 and a CVE in 2.11.60 show it still gets real fixes.
Further 3.8 release candidates and then a final 3.8.0 are the likely next steps, with v2.11 patches continuing in parallel.

Development is narrowing toward Windows and Linux, with output formats that feed other tools. The macOS warning is the first sign of support being cut back.
Expect macOS analysis support to be reduced or removed in a later release; the entries don't say when.
