What is itslearning?

itslearning pilots a new Assignment tool, its first new building block in months.

itslearning's October digest opened the new Assignment tool to all customers as an opt-in pilot: teachers create activities with or without submissions from one starting point, and assignments without submissions get a new assessment view for grades and formatted feedback in the student list. It is part of the German Development Project with four German states. November's digest adds only tree links in folder descriptions.

What is Processing?

Processing adds a release-candidate step before shipping 4.5.7's Linux and WebGPU fixes.

Processing restarted its release train in June with 4.5.4 and has shipped steadily since. 4.5.6 in July merged the wgpu renderer branch and moved the build to Gradle 9. 4.5.7 in September went through two release candidates first, a step none of the earlier releases in this feed had, and fixed an InaccessibleObjectException at Linux startup, limited the --disable-awt flag to the WebGPU renderer, and set up Maven publishing for app/utils.

itslearning vs Processing: editorial side-by-side

I5.0

itslearning pilots a new Assignment tool, its first new building block in months.

◆ Current state

itslearning's October digest opened the new Assignment tool to all customers as an opt-in pilot: teachers create activities with or without submissions from one starting point, and assignments without submissions get a new assessment view for grades and formatted feedback in the student list. It is part of the German Development Project with four German states. November's digest adds only tree links in folder descriptions.

◆ Where it's heading

Most of 2026 was subtraction and accessibility: retiring Test 2.0 and the project Links page, making SCORM a paid add-on, rebuilding Files. The Assignment pilot is a replacement rather than a removal, with the old Task tool kept alongside it during the pilot.

◆ Prediction

Expect the pilot to extend new Assignment to submissions, which still use the old interface, before Task is retired.

P0.0

Processing adds a release-candidate step before shipping 4.5.7's Linux and WebGPU fixes.

◆ Current state

Processing restarted its release train in June with 4.5.4 and has shipped steadily since. 4.5.6 in July merged the wgpu renderer branch and moved the build to Gradle 9. 4.5.7 in September went through two release candidates first, a step none of the earlier releases in this feed had, and fixed an InaccessibleObjectException at Linux startup, limited the --disable-awt flag to the WebGPU renderer, and set up Maven publishing for app/utils.

◆ Where it's heading

The project is putting process around its releases (CI permission checks, a candidate stage before full release) while the WebGPU renderer settles in. Fixes in 4.5.7 that target the WebGPU path show the new renderer is now getting real-world use.

◆ Prediction

Expect further 4.5.x releases through the same candidate process, with WebGPU renderer fixes as the main content.
