GitLab Orbit goes GA, betting that agent quality depends on lifecycle context, not on the model.
GitLab's October output centers on Orbit, a live graph of code, merge requests, pipelines, vulnerabilities and ownership, now generally available for Premium and Ultimate on GitLab.com. Security is the main use case: the Business Logic Security Analyzer is the first GitLab capability to support Claude Mythos 5.1, and PHP2Shell and Pillow CVE guides double as Orbit demonstrations. Duo Agent Platform also reaches outward, with the Flows API letting outside systems such as Salesforce trigger agent investigations.
Rollbar now runs Resolve by itself: a new error can become a fix PR with no one starting it
Agent Automation, released in September, lets teams set rules so a matching error triggers root cause analysis and then Resolve, which opens a pull request for review. Rollbar can post the result to Slack, and a merged fix resolves the item. October's work is plumbing around that loop: personal API tokens, item history and comments through the API, Metrics API queries across all projects, and faster Analyze queries. Analyze is now included in every Advanced and Enterprise plan.

GitLab is positioning itself as the context and control layer for agents it does not own. Claude Code, Codex and Cursor connect to Orbit over MCP, so GitLab can charge for context whichever agent a team prefers. The security posts apply the same logic: discovery is getting cheap, and the scarce step is verified remediation inside governed pipelines.
Orbit's stated next step is reaching Self-Managed and Dedicated in the coming weeks, and GitLab says it is built to extend to non-GitLab data. Expect each major disclosure to keep producing an Orbit-based remediation guide.

The error-to-fix loop has moved from human-started to rule-started, with humans kept at the merge step. The API work supports the same direction: automated checks can now read an item's history and write comments on it. Personal tokens scoped to what a user can reach also suit scripts and agents better than shared account tokens. Bundling Analyze removes an add-on from the top plans.
Resolve adoption will depend on how often rule-triggered PRs get merged, so expect finer rule controls and reporting on those runs. Rule history pages with CSV export are an early sign.
