A side-by-side editorial comparison of Elicit and Snorkel AI — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Elicit's research agent now runs on a schedule and reports back by email.
Elicit has spent four months turning an evidence-synthesis tool into an agent platform. July made the API and an MCP server public, August introduced the Research Agent for decision work, September made projects and the library shared across teams, and the newest entry lets the agent create Routines that monitor for new evidence, update artifacts and email summaries without the user present.
Snorkel AI's feed is benchmark research and a $30M grants program, not product releases.
Snorkel AI's feed remains a research blog. October brought a Frontier Data Summit recap, a post on partial-credit rewards working against task completion for agents, the MedPAIR physician-relevance dataset, and the expansion of its Open Benchmarks Grants tenfold to a $30M commitment. September posts covered RL environment design and a coding benchmark comparing Opus 5.5, Opus 5 and Fable 5.1.

Each release moves Elicit further from a search box a researcher drives toward a standing service that works on a team's behalf: first callable from other tools, then agentic, then shared, now scheduled. The library is becoming the shared memory the agent reads from and writes back to.
Routines currently report by email; the next visible step is likely routines that act on shared team collections or push into other tools through the API and MCP that already exist. The entries don't say how Routines are priced or limited, which is the open question.

The company is building its position on evaluation and training data through public research rather than shipped features. The grants expansion is the clearest strategic move in the window: it pays outside teams to produce open benchmarks, which keeps Snorkel at the center of how agent performance is measured. No product changes are visible in the entries.
Expect more benchmark result posts as new frontier models land, and announcements of the first grantees under the expanded program; the feed gives no signal on product releases.
