What is DocuSign?

DocuSign rebuilt eSignature with AI and is now targeting the full contract lifecycle.

DocuSign has fully reoriented around its Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM) platform, with a proprietary AI engine called Iris now powering both the signing experience and the contract review workflow. The January 2026 eSignature redesign was the most visible signal: AI automates document prep, assists signers in real time, and reduces manual steps at the moment of execution. The March 2026 AI-Assisted Review extension takes Iris further upstream into negotiation and redlining.

What is LNbits?

LNbits ships sandboxed WASM extensions, opening self-hosted Lightning wallets to uncurated plugins.

LNbits v1.6.0 was the project's most architecturally significant release: sandboxed WASM extensions let anyone write and share plugins without core-developer security review, addressing the bottleneck that kept third-party contributions slow. The same release shipped native Lightning Addresses in wallet core, an Electrum-backed block explorer, and Bark funding source support. v1.6.1 and v1.6.2 have since patched a PostgreSQL backup regression and closed NWC payment-failure false positives.

DocuSign rebuilt eSignature with AI and is now targeting the full contract lifecycle.

◆ Current state

DocuSign has fully reoriented around its Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM) platform, with a proprietary AI engine called Iris now powering both the signing experience and the contract review workflow. The January 2026 eSignature redesign was the most visible signal: AI automates document prep, assists signers in real time, and reduces manual steps at the moment of execution. The March 2026 AI-Assisted Review extension takes Iris further upstream into negotiation and redlining.

◆ Where it's heading

The product is moving systematically up the contract lifecycle — from post-signature management (where IAM started) backward through signing and now into pre-signature negotiation. Each step adds another layer of Iris AI to replace human review work. The logical terminus is a fully AI-mediated agreement workflow where Iris handles generation, review, negotiation, and execution with humans in an approval role only.

◆ Prediction

DocuSign's next likely move is deeper integration between Iris and enterprise data sources (CRM, ERP) so that agreement insights flow directly into existing business systems — or an agentic negotiation mode where Iris proposes and marks up contract terms autonomously.

LNbits ships sandboxed WASM extensions, opening self-hosted Lightning wallets to uncurated plugins.

◆ Current state

LNbits v1.6.0 was the project's most architecturally significant release: sandboxed WASM extensions let anyone write and share plugins without core-developer security review, addressing the bottleneck that kept third-party contributions slow. The same release shipped native Lightning Addresses in wallet core, an Electrum-backed block explorer, and Bark funding source support. v1.6.1 and v1.6.2 have since patched a PostgreSQL backup regression and closed NWC payment-failure false positives.

◆ Where it's heading

The WASM extension model is a deliberate shift from curated gallery to permissive, sandbox-first plugin ecosystem — LNbits is betting that sandboxing replaces curation as the trust mechanism. Alongside that, native Lightning Addresses and payment breakdowns push the product further up the stack, adding first-class wallet UX that previously required an extension. LNbits is moving from infrastructure toolkit toward a more complete, self-sovereign financial application.

◆ Prediction

The next likely move is expanding the WASM sandbox API surface — more core hooks exposed to extensions, tooling improvements for the WASM manifest format, and a community-driven extension registry that can grow without gating on core-team review.
