CPE and LMS vs Shopify

Shopify's changelog runs a steady stream of admin, checkout and fulfilment refinements: US tax now calculated from the location an order actually ships from, a Shopify Payments activity report that reconciles a period end to end, checkout pre-selecting a signed-in customer's last payment method, bulk staff provisioning by CSV, and a rebuilt Point of Sale channel page. Sitting among them is a measurement change with a date attached — from 1 September 2026, inventory analytics models count on-hand quantity instead of available quantity.

Two threads run in parallel. The first is operational accuracy for merchants who have outgrown a single location and a small team — tax that follows fulfilment routing, balance activity reconciled in one document, staff created and suspended in bulk. The second is a willingness to restate an existing number rather than add a new one beside it: reported inventory will step up by the committed and unavailable units previously excluded, ShopifyQL queries against inventory return different figures from today, and history before the cutover is deliberately left untouched.

The inventory change sets a template — restate the measure, preserve history, name the date — and the tax work suggests the near-term entries keep serving merchants fulfilling from several locations rather than adding new surfaces.
