What is Chatwoot?

Chatwoot added voice, then turned its AI agent loose on the conversations it already resolved.

Chatwoot spent years building text-first support — live chat, email, WhatsApp, social, help center — and in June added voice calls in beta, closing the last channel gap against the incumbent suites it competes with. Alongside that, Captain has moved from a reply assistant to something that acts: calling external APIs during a conversation, keeping its own document set fresh, and now proposing FAQs mined from resolved tickets. The rest of the release stream is agent-workflow polish — chatlist layouts, editor resizing, bulk help-center edits — shipped every two to four weeks.

What is Discord?

Discord is turning the chat client into a storefront and Nitro into a rewards program.

The feed mixes engineering posts and evergreen help content with two commercial moves: an in-client Rust item shop where users browse, buy, gift and wishlist game items, and Nitro Rewards, a benefits program launched at Nitro's ten-year mark that bundles Xbox Game Pass at no added cost.

Chatwoot vs Discord: editorial side-by-side

C6.3

Chatwoot added voice, then turned its AI agent loose on the conversations it already resolved.

◆ Current state

Chatwoot spent years building text-first support — live chat, email, WhatsApp, social, help center — and in June added voice calls in beta, closing the last channel gap against the incumbent suites it competes with. Alongside that, Captain has moved from a reply assistant to something that acts: calling external APIs during a conversation, keeping its own document set fresh, and now proposing FAQs mined from resolved tickets. The rest of the release stream is agent-workflow polish — chatlist layouts, editor resizing, bulk help-center edits — shipped every two to four weeks.

◆ Where it's heading

Two arcs are running in parallel. Channel completeness is nearly done, so the differentiation is shifting to Captain, which is being built as a closed loop: it answers from a knowledge base, watches which conversations humans resolve, and feeds the gaps back into that knowledge base without anyone curating it. The help center is being rebuilt to carry that weight — a documentation layout, bulk reorganisation, editor and published output brought into alignment — because it is the substrate Captain reads from, not just a customer-facing page.

◆ Prediction

The obvious next step is letting Captain publish approved FAQ suggestions straight into the help center rather than handing back a review list, which would complete the loop end to end. Voice is still in beta and has no Captain story yet, so expect the two arcs to meet — transcription and Captain handling on calls.

Discord is turning the chat client into a storefront and Nitro into a rewards program.

◆ Current state

The feed mixes engineering posts and evergreen help content with two commercial moves: an in-client Rust item shop where users browse, buy, gift and wishlist game items, and Nitro Rewards, a benefits program launched at Nitro's ten-year mark that bundles Xbox Game Pass at no added cost.

◆ Where it's heading

Both moves push Discord from adjacent-to-games toward transacting in them. The shop makes purchases happen inside the client rather than sending users to a publisher storefront, while Nitro shifts from a features subscription to a partnership-driven benefits bundle.

◆ Prediction

Expect more publisher shops on the pattern the Rust launch establishes, and Nitro Rewards to add partners over time, since a benefits program's value rests on the roster rather than any single title.
