A side-by-side editorial comparison of Business Directory Plugin and Umbraco CMS — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Business Directory Plugin maintains a steady bug-fix cadence with no new directional moves.
Business Directory Plugin ships small v6.4.x releases roughly monthly. v6.4.28 fixed subscription handling for held listings, renewals that wrongly completed after rejected payments and pagination on child pages; v6.4.29 added display tweaks such as a featured-image badge. The Zip Search add-on's radius-sorting fix is the most substantive change in the window.
Umbraco 19's first beta moves to .NET 11 and puts reusable content in every block editor.
Umbraco has three lines moving at once. The first 19.0 beta moves to .NET 11, extends reusable Library content to every block editor and brings search into core. The 18.3 and 17.8 candidates are on a second round, and rc2 on both lines resolves the same seven security advisories, among them a backoffice account takeover through sign-in redirect manipulation.

The plugin appears stable and mature. Without a visible roadmap or directional signals in the releases, the trajectory is continued compatibility maintenance for WordPress core updates and add-on stability. The Zip Search fixes (sorting by distance, coordinate caching) suggest some investment in the search experience, but these are correctness fixes rather than expansions.
The next likely move is continued PHP compatibility work as WordPress raises its minimum requirements and the plugin addresses deprecation notices that accumulate with PHP 8.x upgrades.

The maintenance phase visible through September has given way to a major-version cycle. Version 19 consolidates work that had been spread across packages and settings: search moves from a package into core, and Document Blueprints move from Settings to the Library. Its breaking list is long, covering ImageSharp 4, the segment model and the removal of code scheduled for 19, and 18.3's ImageSharp licence check is already catching projects that reference that package directly.
18.3.0 and 17.8.0 are dated 29 October on GitHub, though neither has reached this feed yet. The 19 line should continue through further betas, with runtime async the item the team has singled out for feedback.
