GnuCash
GnuCash 5.17 is another bugfix list, with a real capital-gains fix tucked inside.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of Bill.com and OpenBB — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
BILL turns multi-entity into its main theme, while AI moves into the AP inbox and month-end close.
BILL's autumn releases concentrate on businesses running several related companies. Spend & Expense now supports multi-entity accounts on one credit application and shared credit line, and vendor credits can be handled across entities from the parent. AI work continues in the AP inbox, which now identifies incoming documents, and in close, with smarter coding, a period close mode and approver reminders.
OpenBB V5 swaps AGPL for Apache-2.0 and cuts sixteen provider packages.
OpenBB V5 ended the feed's five-month silence on September 30. The repository license moved from AGPL-3.0-only to Apache-2.0, the openbb metapackage reached 5.0.0, and packaging moved from Poetry to hatchling and uv. Eighteen directories were dropped, including sixteen provider packages, with one new provider, openbb-jodi. The release also adds layered openbb.toml config, OBBStream streaming, decoupled charting, CLI 2.0 and refactored API and MCP layers. ODP Desktop moved to v2.0.0 the same day.

The product is moving up-market through structure as much as through AI. Multi-entity support gives BILL a reason to stay as a customer adds companies, and it now reaches both AP and spend. The AI thread stays narrow and practical: sorting, coding and flagging work that staff used to do by hand, with the review step left in place.
BILL calls document recognition a first step toward an inbox that understands documents, so expect more automated handling inside AP. Further multi-entity coverage is also likely, since it has now landed in two product lines within two weeks.

V5 turns the earlier trimming into an explicit reset. Removing providers and decoupling charting shrink what the team maintains, while spec-driven API and MCP proxies and code generation make the remaining platform easier to build on. The license change points the same way, opening the code to a wider set of adopters.
Expect V5 point releases to fix breakage from the refactor, plus provider work now owned by provider packages. Whether removed providers return as third-party extensions is not stated in the entries.
