What is rtoot?

rtoot reached 1.0 by rebuilding on httr2 rather than by adding anything new.

rtoot is the R client for Mastodon and the wider Fediverse, covering the REST endpoints, streaming, pagination and rate limits. The 1.0.0 release is infrastructure work — the HTTP layer moved to httr2, long-running queries are wrapped in tryCatch, and post_toot() gained basic error handling. The functional surface has been broadly stable since 0.2.0 added streaming and pagination.

Auth0 is retiring ad-hoc configuration in favor of structured objects and then changing defaults only for new tenants — legacy password policies stay supported with no end-of-life date, so the migration is carried by new-connection defaults rather than forced deprecation. Alongside that, the delegation model established by Custom Token Exchange keeps widening, and the recurring theme in the smaller releases is closing gaps where a setting appeared to apply everywhere but did not.

Expect the same treatment applied to another legacy configuration surface — a single structured object, GA, and new-tenant defaults with the old fields left supported indefinitely. Whether Auth0 ever sets an end-of-life for the legacy password fields is explicitly left open in this release.
