What is Astro?

Astro's post-7.0 minors keep chasing build speed, with timing tools and parallel prerendering.

Astro has shipped a minor release every three to six weeks since 7.0. Version 7.4 adds a --timings flag that shows where a build spends its time, separate build and runtime image services, a notFound() handler for custom entrypoints, and experimental parallel prerendering and custom redirect pages. 7.3 was a smaller release for preview, logging and Cloudflare entrypoints. Monthly recaps and an Evil Martians migration story from Gatsby fill out the feed.

What is GitLab?

GitLab Orbit goes GA, betting that agent quality depends on lifecycle context, not on the model.

GitLab's October output centers on Orbit, a live graph of code, merge requests, pipelines, vulnerabilities and ownership, now generally available for Premium and Ultimate on GitLab.com. Security is the main use case: the Business Logic Security Analyzer is the first GitLab capability to support Claude Mythos 5.1, and PHP2Shell and Pillow CVE guides double as Orbit demonstrations. Duo Agent Platform also reaches outward, with the Flows API letting outside systems such as Salesforce trigger agent investigations.

A
Astro
DEVOPS
5.0

Astro's post-7.0 minors keep chasing build speed, with timing tools and parallel prerendering.

◆ Current state

Astro has shipped a minor release every three to six weeks since 7.0. Version 7.4 adds a --timings flag that shows where a build spends its time, separate build and runtime image services, a notFound() handler for custom entrypoints, and experimental parallel prerendering and custom redirect pages. 7.3 was a smaller release for preview, logging and Cloudflare entrypoints. Monthly recaps and an Evil Martians migration story from Gatsby fill out the feed.

◆ Where it's heading

The 7.x line is about making builds faster and easier to inspect. Experimental incremental builds arrived in 7.2 and parallel prerendering in 7.4, while --timings gives users a way to see what they are gaining. Custom entrypoints and integration control over output directories show the framework widening its deployment seams at the same time.

◆ Prediction

Parallel prerendering and incremental static builds are the likely next graduations from experimental, given the steady attention to build time. Expect 7.5 by late November if the recent rhythm holds.

GitLab Orbit goes GA, betting that agent quality depends on lifecycle context, not on the model.

◆ Current state

GitLab's October output centers on Orbit, a live graph of code, merge requests, pipelines, vulnerabilities and ownership, now generally available for Premium and Ultimate on GitLab.com. Security is the main use case: the Business Logic Security Analyzer is the first GitLab capability to support Claude Mythos 5.1, and PHP2Shell and Pillow CVE guides double as Orbit demonstrations. Duo Agent Platform also reaches outward, with the Flows API letting outside systems such as Salesforce trigger agent investigations.

◆ Where it's heading

GitLab is positioning itself as the context and control layer for agents it does not own. Claude Code, Codex and Cursor connect to Orbit over MCP, so GitLab can charge for context whichever agent a team prefers. The security posts apply the same logic: discovery is getting cheap, and the scarce step is verified remediation inside governed pipelines.

◆ Prediction

Orbit's stated next step is reaching Self-Managed and Dedicated in the coming weeks, and GitLab says it is built to extend to non-GitLab data. Expect each major disclosure to keep producing an Orbit-based remediation guide.
