Appwrite is shipping near-daily, and the recent run is almost entirely infrastructure: the CLI rewritten in Go as a single native binary with ~10 ms command startup, SquashFS mounting for Sites and Functions deployments to cut cold starts by up to 51%, and a dependency build cache that takes a Next.js install from 11.7s to 2.8s. On top of that sits the agent layer — a hosted remote MCP server and a Functions template for deploying your own. The newest release adds a custom MFA factor where Appwrite generates and verifies the code but the application delivers it.
stbl keeps tightening its own defaults, accepting breakage now to avoid silent wrongness later.

The cost side is being managed in the same window, with build-artifact storage moving into billed usage on September 1 and scheduled executions on free plans jittered to smooth load.
With the CLI, deployment path and MCP surface all rebuilt in one quarter, the next likely move is extending the same treatment to the remaining runtime — the entries point at cold-start and execution limits as the constraints still being worked around.

The package is converging on a single principle — an argument checker that quietly accepts bad input is worse than none. 0.3.0 flipped the scalar functions to reject NULL and zero-length input by default; 0.4.0 made to_df() and to_lst() error on extra arguments in dots that were previously discarded. Alongside the tightening, the surface is expanding beyond coercion into condition signalling: pkg_abort() has been joined by pkg_inform() and pkg_warn() with a matching class hierarchy, plus testthat helpers that assert on those classes and snapshot the output. That positions stbl less as a coercion helper and more as the argument-and-condition layer for a package author's whole public API.
Expect the condition-signalling side to keep growing toward parity with the coercion side, and further default-tightening releases each fronted by a breaking-changes list.
