Appwrite is shipping near-daily, and the recent run is almost entirely infrastructure: the CLI rewritten in Go as a single native binary with ~10 ms command startup, SquashFS mounting for Sites and Functions deployments to cut cold starts by up to 51%, and a dependency build cache that takes a Next.js install from 11.7s to 2.8s. On top of that sits the agent layer — a hosted remote MCP server and a Functions template for deploying your own. The newest release adds a custom MFA factor where Appwrite generates and verifies the code but the application delivers it.
Artillery adds a single-request diagnostic command and finally makes ESM a first-class citizen.
Artillery ships a patch release every four to eight weeks, and for most of the last ten that release was a Playwright version bump plus fixes to the distributed runners on Lambda, Fargate and Azure ACI. Every piece of this fits one thesis: the control plane has to be fast enough and scriptable enough to sit inside an agent's inner loop. A 20x faster CLI matters when something calls it in a loop; runtime tool search in the MCP server matters because a full API surface will not fit a model's context; the Projects API matters because configuration becomes code. The cost side is being managed in the same window, with build-artifact storage moving into billed usage on September 1 and scheduled executions on free plans jittered to smooth load.
With the CLI, deployment path and MCP surface all rebuilt in one quarter, the next likely move is extending the same treatment to the remaining runtime — the entries point at cold-start and execution limits as the constraints still being worked around.

Two arcs are converging. The first is reliability of the cloud runners, addressed incrementally by bundling more into the worker image rather than fetching at test startup — the fake-data plugin moved in this release, following the pre-packaged Playwright and CLI binaries earlier in the window. The second is modern JavaScript support: full ESM across processors, plugins, engines and reporters, plus TypeScript definitions that now model the entire test script rather than a fragment. Together they point at a team removing the reasons a test fails for reasons unrelated to the system under test.
Expect the ping command to grow assertion and output options, and the worker images to keep absorbing commonly-used plugins so that startup installs disappear entirely.
