GitHub, GitLab and Mattermost each define how agents get context and permissions in collaboration tools.
The week in collaboration
The center of gravity is agent governance and context. GitHub made Agentic Workflows generally available and Copilot Fusion route across models, GitLab made Orbit generally available on the argument that agent quality depends on lifecycle context, and Mattermost v12 puts user-scoped permissions and audit trails on every agent action.
The second pattern is that knowledge and database tools ship their own MCP servers: Teable, Wiki.js and Memos all did, so outside AI clients can read and write inside them.
Leaders
GitHub had three sparks around Universe: Agentic Workflows going generally available, Copilot Fusion choosing the model for the user, and Enterprise seats bundling Copilot.
GitLab Orbit is generally available for Premium and Ultimate customers on GitLab.com, positioned on higher agent accuracy and lower token cost.
Mattermost v12 stops agents from running with broad access, and adds Cross Guard for managed cross-domain transfers.
Teable rebuilt its Template Center into a versioned catalog with a creator program, and runs an official MCP server with OAuth for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor.
Double made Ask Double Connectors generally available with any MCP server, and launched Autoclose, in which scheduled AI agents run the month-end close as a $500 per month add-on.
Wildcards
Softr added a one-click migration of Airtable bases and automations into Softr Database, with the app cloned onto the new data to test before switching.
Readwise unbundled into Reader-only and Highlights-only plans.
Dropbox announced organizational changes that reduce its team, while its project context spreads through the Cursor Marketplace and Grok Bot.
Themes that compounded
- Agent permissions and audit trails at Mattermost, with lifecycle context at GitLab.
- Embedded MCP servers in Teable, Wiki.js and Memos.
- Competitive migration paths in Softr's Airtable importer and Hive's Wrike importer.
- Tables as a work surface: Asana Tables sits records next to tasks for AI Teammates.
Watch this week
Watch for follow-ups to GitHub's Universe announcements, since it shipped 17 improvements alongside the sparks, and for early Autoclose customer detail from Double. Memos, Wiki.js and Teable are shipping MCP surfaces in rapid release candidates, so permissions and auth changes on those endpoints are the likeliest next step.
