Analytics tools become agent-callable: Lightdash skills, Parseable tools and Fulcrum Insights, as Pinot adds SQL DDL.
The week in analytics
Analytics products are being built for two audiences at once: people asking questions and agents calling tools. Lightdash opened AI-built chart types to every cloud user through the app or MCP and let agents save reusable skills, Parseable added a tool executor API for external MCP servers, and Fulcrum opened its Insights assistant to all customers in public beta.
The data-infrastructure tier shipped structural changes: Apache Pinot 1.6.0 brought SQL DDL and vector search and now needs Java 25.
Leaders
Apache Pinot 1.6.0 lets operators create, drop and inspect tables with SQL DDL, adds IVF vector search, and requires Java 25 for its services. The 1.5.0 release added a federation and multi-cluster routing framework so a query no longer has to be answered by a single cluster.
Lightdash agents now support skills, written procedures saved in the agent, and Chart Studio, which turns a description into a chart, is available to all cloud users.
Fulcrum Insights answers plain-language questions about field data with charts, maps and tables, and is now open to every customer.
Superwise put a Sentinel FinOps dashboard on its LLM gateway to track token spend across the fleet, then added Caveman output shortening at three intensities and token-saving reports.
Wildcards
ChartMogul introduced MRRaudit to explain why MRR figures do not reconcile, turning back toward its core metric.
Keboola enabled Branched Storage on all projects and shipped a security update for Python/JS and Streamlit data apps.
OpenPanel shipped supporter builds 3.17.0 and 3.18.0 within a day of each other without release notes.
Themes that compounded
- Agent-callable analytics via Lightdash MCP, Parseable's tool executor and HyperDX's tag-routed alerts.
- Token and cost accounting for AI usage in Superwise.
- Lineage and dependency clarity: Holistics added a data lineage panel in the IDE and Dagster is untangling from dbt-core so dbt Fusion can run.
- Security patching in Countly (backported token rules to the 24.05 branch) and Keboola.
Watch this week
Watch for Pinot 1.6.x patch releases as operators hit the Java 25 requirement. Also watch whether Parseable continues adding agent tools, since 3.2.5 and 3.2.6 both extended its toolset, and whether Lightdash agent skills spread beyond the first release.
