Current state
Apache Syncope is maintaining two 4.x lines simultaneously — 4.0 'Notturno' and 4.1 'Capriccio' — and cuts them as pairs, with the two releases published within minutes of each other on the same day. 4.1.0 opened the newer line in April and has since reached 4.1.2, while 4.0 continues to 4.0.7. A 3.0.16 release in February shows the previous major is still being maintained as well. What each release actually contains is not stated: every announcement is the same boilerplate paragraph pointing at an external changelog.
Where it's heading
The observable trajectory is entirely structural, because the release notes carry no content. Two 4.x branches advancing in step, released simultaneously and each carrying its own upgrade notes, is the signature of a project supporting enterprise deployments that cannot move majors on demand. The 4.1.0-M0 milestone in February preceding the 4.1.0 GA in April suggests a deliberate stabilisation process rather than a rolling release. Beyond that, any claim about direction would be invention — the substance lives behind the changelog links these announcements point to.
Prediction
Expect the paired-release cadence to continue at roughly two-month intervals, with 4.0.x and 4.1.x cut together and 3.0.x receiving occasional maintenance. Nothing in these announcements supports a prediction about feature direction.

    Apache Syncope 4.0.7

A maintenance release on the 4.0 Notturno line, published alongside 4.1.2 ten minutes earlier. The announcement carries no change detail beyond noting that upgrading from 4.0.6 has associated notes, so the substance is only available in the linked changelog.

    Apache Syncope 4.1.2

The 4.1 Capriccio half of the 20 July release pair. Like its sibling it documents only that upgrade notes exist for the previous patch version, continuing the project's practice of announcing releases without summarising them.

    Apache Syncope 4.1.1

First patch release on the 4.1 line, published two minutes after the matching 4.0.6. The pairing is the informative part: both branches receive attention in the same cutting session rather than one lagging behind.

    Apache Syncope 4.0.6

The 4.0 Notturno counterpart to 4.1.1, released the same afternoon. Contents are undisclosed in the announcement; the only stated user-facing consideration is that upgrading from 4.0.5 has notes.

    Apache Syncope 4.0.5

A 4.0 patch cut on the same day 4.1.0 reached general availability, confirming that opening the newer line did not stop maintenance on the older one. No change detail is published.

    Apache Syncope 4.1.0

The general availability of the 4.1 Capriccio line, following a 4.1.0-M0 milestone six weeks earlier. It is the only release in this window with no 'upgrading from' note, which is consistent with it opening a branch rather than continuing one — but the announcement says nothing about what 4.1 changes relative to 4.0.
