Weaviate 1.38 brought the HFresh disk-based vector index and a built-in MCP server to general availability, rebuilt cluster-wide async replication onto a single scheduler enabled by default, and opened previews for a Boost API and nested object handling. Separately, Engram — a managed memory and context service for agentic applications — reached general availability, query profiling now returns per-stage per-shard timing, and Weaviate Cloud became free to start across the whole suite. agentOS replacing sandbox VMs for agent execution — and other platforms are adopting it
Rivet's July run is almost entirely agentOS. An execution API now runs JavaScript and Python directly instead of shelling out to bash. Vercel's Eve and Flue both added agentOS support, described as a lightweight alternative to sandbox VMs running on WebAssembly and V8 isolates in a backend the operator already runs. Separately, Rivet Actors gained durable, timezone-aware cron jobs that let an actor sleep and wake on schedule indefinitely. A technical post argues the agent harness should run outside the sandbox entirely.

Two layers are moving at once. Underneath, the storage and replication engine is being rebuilt for disk-resident vectors and scale, with profiling added so users can see where queries actually spend time. Above it, Weaviate is claiming a role beyond search: Engram sells memory and context for agents as a managed service, and the built-in MCP server makes the database directly addressable by models. Free-to-start Cloud lowers the barrier to both.
Expect the Boost API and nested object previews to reach general availability next, and Engram to accumulate the retention and context-window controls that agent memory requires — the entries show the service launched before those knobs were described.

Rivet is making a specific architectural bet: agent code execution does not need a VM per session, and the harness should not live inside the sandbox at all. The performance claim behind it is concrete — package installs measured in microseconds. What makes this window notable is that the bet is being taken up outside Rivet: two other agent platforms shipped agentOS support within days of each other, which moves it from a product feature toward a component others build on.
Expect more execution runtimes behind the same API following JavaScript and Python, and continued third-party adoption, since the Eve and Flue integrations both landed inside a single week.
