What is Warp?

Warp unbundles its agent from its terminal, and the CLI now runs anywhere

Warp's feed is almost entirely long-form writing rather than releases: a multi-part series on building a cloud software factory, plus positioning essays on moving agents off developer machines. Against that backdrop one actual product shipped on 4 August, the Warp Agent as a standalone CLI. Nine of the last ten posts announce nothing installable.

What is Dokku?

Dokku is quietly turning into a k3s front-end with a JSON-first CLI.

Dokku is twenty-six patches deep into the 0.38 line, shipping small releases every one to two weeks whose bodies are largely dependabot bumps. The substantive work sits in two places: the k3s scheduler, which just picked up wildcard domain routing through Traefik, manually managed cert issuers, and kernel sysctl control, and the CLI surface, where `:report` and `:list` subcommands are gaining `--format json` while being ported from bash to Go. A command-injection fix in the docker-options eval path landed in v0.38.25.

Warp unbundles its agent from its terminal, and the CLI now runs anywhere

◆ Current state

Warp's feed is almost entirely long-form writing rather than releases: a multi-part series on building a cloud software factory, plus positioning essays on moving agents off developer machines. Against that backdrop one actual product shipped on 4 August, the Warp Agent as a standalone CLI. Nine of the last ten posts announce nothing installable.

◆ Where it's heading

The writing and the release point the same direction. Warp is repositioning from a terminal you replace to an agent layer you run anywhere, and increasingly in the cloud rather than on a laptop. The software-factory series reads as a specification of the product Warp wants to sell, covering triage, spec, implement, review, verify, and ship, and the standalone CLI is the first piece that does not require adopting Warp's terminal.

◆ Prediction

The cloud-hosted side of the factory is the most likely next productization, since the series has now covered triage, spec-driven development, code review, and computer-use verification, which is most of the loop it set out at the start.

Dokku is quietly turning into a k3s front-end with a JSON-first CLI.

◆ Current state

Dokku is twenty-six patches deep into the 0.38 line, shipping small releases every one to two weeks whose bodies are largely dependabot bumps. The substantive work sits in two places: the k3s scheduler, which just picked up wildcard domain routing through Traefik, manually managed cert issuers, and kernel sysctl control, and the CLI surface, where `:report` and `:list` subcommands are gaining `--format json` while being ported from bash to Go. A command-injection fix in the docker-options eval path landed in v0.38.25.

◆ Where it's heading

The single-host Docker PaaS Dokku started as is increasingly a front-end for a Kubernetes backend. Across these ten releases nearly every new feature touches either scheduler-k3s or machine-readable output, and almost none touch the original Docker-only path. The bash-to-Go port running underneath reads as groundwork for the structured-output work rather than a refactor for its own sake.

◆ Prediction

Expect `--format json` to keep spreading across the remaining bash subcommands, and k3s to keep absorbing the certificate and networking controls the nginx and Traefik paths already have.
