What is Rocket.Chat?

Rocket.Chat's 8.7 release train is six candidates deep with almost nothing user-facing in them.

Rocket.Chat is an open-source team chat and collaboration platform, and its feed right now is entirely the 8.7.0 release-candidate train — six tags between July 23 and August 6. Nearly every one carries the identical body: a Meteor version bump and updated core-typings and rest-typings dependencies. The engine floor is unchanged across all six (Node 22.22.3, Deno 2.3.1, MongoDB 8.0, Apps-Engine 1.65.1-rc.0), so the platform substrate is settled and the remaining work is shakeout.

What is WhatsApp?

WhatsApp Business is turning Marketing Messages into a full creative-optimization engine.

WhatsApp Business Platform's recent activity is concentrated on the Marketing Messages and MM Lite APIs. Automatic Creative Optimization (ACO) gained several new types — auto promotion tag, product extensions, text formatting, and image background generation — alongside a new endpoint and the 100% rollout of the product_policy field. On the governance side, ACO is now disabled by default at the Business Account level, putting opt-in choice in the merchant's hands. Embedded Signup added new Coexistence countries and webhooks; Cloud API added a new error code (131064) and PARTNER_REMOVED webhook context.

Rocket.Chat's 8.7 release train is six candidates deep with almost nothing user-facing in them.

◆ Current state

Rocket.Chat is an open-source team chat and collaboration platform, and its feed right now is entirely the 8.7.0 release-candidate train — six tags between July 23 and August 6. Nearly every one carries the identical body: a Meteor version bump and updated core-typings and rest-typings dependencies. The engine floor is unchanged across all six (Node 22.22.3, Deno 2.3.1, MongoDB 8.0, Apps-Engine 1.65.1-rc.0), so the platform substrate is settled and the remaining work is shakeout.

◆ Where it's heading

This is what a release looks like while it stabilizes: the substantive changes landed before rc.1, and the tags since are dependency churn with one real fix among them. Read the cadence carefully — six tags in two weeks measures release-candidate activity, not shipped capability, and the actual 8.7.0 feature list will arrive with the GA notes rather than accumulate across these candidates. The pattern repeats each minor version, so the RC tags are best treated as progress markers on one release.

◆ Prediction

8.7.0 GA is the obvious next tag. The gaps between candidates have not tightened in a way that dates it — rc.1 and rc.2 came an hour apart, then eight days to rc.3 — so the remaining blocker list is not readable from the notes.

WhatsApp Business is turning Marketing Messages into a full creative-optimization engine.

◆ Current state

◆ Where it's heading

WhatsApp is positioning Marketing Messages as a programmatic marketing channel, not a one-off broadcast tool. ACO's expanding catalog (text, images, product mappings) means platforms can hand creative variables to WhatsApp's optimizer rather than ship pre-rendered templates. Account-level default-off and richer conversion metrics suggest Meta is also responding to brand-side concerns about message control and ROI measurement.

◆ Prediction

Expect more ACO levers to ship — likely audience-level optimization and richer attribution back to ads-on-Meta — as WhatsApp leans into being measurable for direct-response advertisers. Embedded Signup country expansion is likely to continue at the current monthly cadence.
