A side-by-side editorial comparison of Rank Math and Thrive Themes — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Rank Math is quietly turning a WordPress SEO plugin into an MCP server for AI assistants.
Rank Math PRO now ships on a two-week cadence with its releases split cleanly in two. One half is an expanding catalog of rank-math/* MCP tools that let AI assistants read a site's links, schema, and keyword positions; the other is an AI-facing analytics layer — AI Visibility, AI Traffic, AI Link Genius. The classic SEO surface (schema generator, news sitemaps, email reports) is in maintenance, absorbing fixes rather than new capability.
A publishing machine with a quiet product line — five SEO guides for every real release.
Thrive Themes' feed is overwhelmingly editorial: comparison guides, landing-page tutorials and plugin roundups aimed at search traffic, several of which recommend Thrive's own tools. Actual product news is sparse and older — an automatic welcome-email trigger in Thrive Apprentice in April, and a Thrive Suite 10.8.8 release in late March that touched Quiz Builder, Leads and Architect. Nothing in the last three months of the feed announces a shipped change.

Every release since 3.0.114 has either added an MCP tool or extended one, and the AI modules are accumulating faster than the traditional SEO ones. The plugin is repositioning from optimizing for a search results page to being readable by, and measurable inside, answer engines. Rank Math is betting the next ranking surface is the assistant, and it wants to sit on both sides of that — feeding assistants structured site data and reporting back on how the brand shows up in them.
Every MCP tool shipped so far is read-only (get-top-keywords, get-link-report, get-post-links, get-post-schema), so the obvious next step is write-capable tools that let an assistant edit schema or fix links directly. Expect AI Visibility to deepen into per-platform breakdowns, since it currently reports presence without saying where.

The company is running a content engine far faster than its release cadence, and the two are aimed at the same buyer: WordPress owners selling courses and offers. Where product work does surface, it clusters around the course business — student onboarding, quiz data export, form duplication — rather than the page-building core that Thrive was known for. The feed's cadence is a publishing schedule, not a shipping signal, so apparent velocity here overstates product movement.
The likeliest next visible move is another Thrive Suite point release bundling small per-plugin upgrades, with Thrive Apprentice absorbing the course-lifecycle automation work. Release timing is hard to call from this feed, since product announcements appear only every few months between marketing posts.
