Hono's news has moved from features to hardening — the 4.12 line is patching trust boundaries.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of Phaser and Micronaut — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Phaser 4 landed a ground-up WebGL rewrite and is now filling in the renderer it built
Phaser shipped version 4 in April 2026 after a long release-candidate run, replacing the v3 pipeline system with a node-based renderer, unifying FX and masks into one filter system, and adding SpriteGPULayer for very large sprite counts. The releases since have been additive work inside that new architecture: CustomContext for reaching into DrawingContext at render time, Mesh2D for batched textured triangles, stencil and alpha-strategy game config, and a patch cleaning up stencil defaults and ESM build breakage.
Micronaut is patching two 5.x trains almost daily, mostly around AOP and introspection
Micronaut Core is releasing at an unusually high frequency — six versions in nine days across two parallel lines, 5.0.x and 5.1.x. Individual releases are tiny, often a single commit. The recurring subject matter is the compile-time machinery: method injection on AOP introduction proxies, processing of replaced executable methods, factory beans declared in superclasses, introspection of private JsonProperty fields, and a @Replaces regression on proxied default implementations.

The v4 rewrite is holding, and the follow-up releases are exposing renderer internals as supported API rather than hiding them — CustomContext, stencil configuration and alpha strategies all hand advanced users direct control over GL state that v3 kept private. The bug pattern in 4.2.1, where stencil options silently did nothing and namespace access broke the ESM build, is the expected cost of a young renderer meeting real games.
Expect continued additive 4.x releases exposing more render-node and filter surface, with patches trailing each one to fix defaults and ESM packaging as the new paths get exercised.

The cluster of AOP, @Replaces and factory-bean fixes in quick succession suggests recent changes to bean processing are still settling, with each edge case found and shipped individually rather than batched. A Jackson security patch applied to both trains on consecutive days shows the backport discipline is intact. The GraalVM warning cleanup and exclusive service-loader strategy point at native-image quality being maintained alongside.
Expect the two-train patch cadence to continue until the AOP and bean-replacement fixes stop arriving, with 5.0.x receiving only security backports and regressions.
