What is Technitium DNS Server?

A self-hosted DNS server that grew an enterprise identity layer.

Technitium shipped its v15 line in April 2026 and has been iterating on it steadily since, with four point releases in under three months. The defining change was Single Sign-On via OpenID Connect, and nearly every release after it has gone back to sand down that same surface — SSO scopes, SSO implementation fixes, new Settings options. Release notes are thin pointers to a CHANGELOG file, so the granular detail lives outside the feed.

Device support continues accreting steadily underneath, mostly mediatek filogic and ramips targets.

The work is consolidating around administration and access control rather than DNS resolution itself. A self-hosted DNS server adding OIDC and scope configuration is positioning for multi-admin and organizational deployments, not the single-operator homelab it started in.
