A side-by-side editorial comparison of Mamba and Prometheus — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Mamba is adding the reproducibility controls conda users have been asking of the solver.
The 2.9.0 release candidates introduce two user-facing controls: excluding builds newer than a given timestamp with --exclude-newer, and opting out of link script execution. Around them sit fixes with an operational bent, leaving permissions on shared package cache directories alone, explaining missing packages when string ids collide with solvables, and static linking corrections. The earlier alpha in this window is entirely bug fixes to noarch Python entry point linking and root package expansion.
Prometheus 3.16 ships GA with query cost limits behind a flag and stable Smoothed/Anchored selectors
Prometheus 3.16.0 went GA on 4 November after four release candidates. It makes Smoothed and Anchored vector selectors stable and always-on, adds experimental query cost estimation with configurable execution limits, an experimental integral() function, per-query start-timestamp overrides and metadata-wal-records in Agent mode. The rest is TSDB correctness fixes for out-of-order samples and a long list of scrape and remote-write performance work.

Both new options point the same way: making an environment solve predictable and less trusting. A timestamp cutoff turns a solve into something reproducible after the fact, and disabling link scripts removes arbitrary code execution from installation. The bug fixes concentrate on shared and multi-user installs, which suggests the pressure is coming from environments where one package cache serves many users.
With a timestamp cutoff and a link-script opt-out both landing in the same release, the direction is toward solves that can be audited and repeated; further work most likely continues on the shared-cache and permissions handling these fixes keep touching.

The 3.16 cycle makes PromQL cost measurable before making it enforceable: subquery samples now count toward statistics, and limits ship behind --enable-feature=query-cost. Remote Write 2.0 keeps dropping legacy metadata metrics, and the 3.15.x and 3.13 LTS lines move separately on security rebuilds.
Expect 3.15.x and 3.13.x security patches next and a 3.17 rc within weeks; whether query-cost leaves its flag depends on feedback the entries do not yet show.

They serve adjacent needs but don't currently overlap on shipped themes. Mamba and Prometheus are shipping at a similar cadence (velocity 5.0 vs 5.0, both within Sparkpulse's "active" band). See the at-a-glance table above for a side-by-side breakdown of velocity, recent sparks, and editorial themes.
