What is LibrePhotos?

Five repos became one, and the authorization model got a public-safe user view.

LibrePhotos released quarterly and the June 2026 milestone consolidated backend, frontend, mobile app, docs and Docker deployment into a single repository with each project's git history preserved. The follow-up patch cleans up fallout from an earlier authorization hardening: GET /api/user/ now returns a public-safe serializer to non-admins, with email, scan directory, Nextcloud credentials and the superuser flag withheld. The only other entry in the feed is a 2019 release candidate.

What is Lidarr?

Lidarr's release notes still tell you not to update Radarr — the fork's seams are showing.

Lidarr publishes auto-generated pre-release builds every few weeks, each carrying a handful of commits. The recent ones add rate limiting to Spotify lookup endpoints, fix basic auth and cookie reuse for qBittorrent, pull in Weblate translation updates and bump ImageSharp and MailKit. The boilerplate at the top of every entry warns against updating Radarr inside an existing container — text inherited from the upstream project and never changed.

LibrePhotos vs Lidarr: editorial side-by-side

L0.0

Five repos became one, and the authorization model got a public-safe user view.

◆ Current state

LibrePhotos released quarterly and the June 2026 milestone consolidated backend, frontend, mobile app, docs and Docker deployment into a single repository with each project's git history preserved. The follow-up patch cleans up fallout from an earlier authorization hardening: GET /api/user/ now returns a public-safe serializer to non-admins, with email, scan directory, Nextcloud credentials and the superuser flag withheld. The only other entry in the feed is a 2019 release candidate.

◆ Where it's heading

Two threads are visible. Structurally, the project is reducing the cost of contributing — one issue tracker, one pull-request target, unified Actions workflows, a single Renovate config. Behaviourally, it is separating what a user can see about other users from what an admin can, and then repairing the frontend assumptions that separation broke. Both are the moves of a self-hosted project trying to be maintainable by more than its core group.

◆ Prediction

With the monorepo landed, expect the next release to spend its budget on the unified build and release pipeline rather than photo features, and on further tightening of what non-admin API responses expose.

5.0

Lidarr's release notes still tell you not to update Radarr — the fork's seams are showing.

◆ Current state

Lidarr publishes auto-generated pre-release builds every few weeks, each carrying a handful of commits. The recent ones add rate limiting to Spotify lookup endpoints, fix basic auth and cookie reuse for qBittorrent, pull in Weblate translation updates and bump ImageSharp and MailKit. The boilerplate at the top of every entry warns against updating Radarr inside an existing container — text inherited from the upstream project and never changed.

◆ Where it's heading

This is a project maintained rather than developed. Version numbers advance through build counts more than features, one release in this window contains nothing but a version bump, and the substantive work is defensive: staying within third-party rate limits, keeping torrent client authentication working, absorbing dependency updates. The metadata providers it depends on are where the pressure shows.

◆ Prediction

Expect continued small builds driven by external breakage — torrent client authentication changes and metadata provider limits are the two recurring sources here. The rate limiting added for Spotify suggests provider throttling is an active problem, so more of the same is the likeliest next move.
