What is Komga?

A mature media server whose releases are format edge cases and Kobo plumbing.

Komga moves between minor releases slowly — 1.24.0 in January, 1.25.0 in late June — with patch releases in between that are almost entirely EPUB parsing fixes. The two features worth naming are solid RAR4 archive support in 1.25.0 and an SSE heartbeat event in 1.24.0. The rest is fixes to EPUB table-of-contents handling, fixed-layout detection, and the Kobo and OPDS2 integration surfaces.

What is AFFiNE?

AFFiNE just cut its AI loose from a fixed provider — bring your own keys, your own models, per workspace.

AFFiNE publishes from two trains simultaneously — dated canary builds and 0.27.x betas — so the same pull request often appears twice with different version numbers. Most of the recent output is dependency automation: setup-python, actions/cache, RevenueCat SPM bumps. The substantive work sits on the server: blob sync with presigned URLs for S3 and R2, document garbage collection reliability, and now a rebuild of how Copilot gets its models.

Komga
COLLAB
0.0

A mature media server whose releases are format edge cases and Kobo plumbing.

◆ Current state

Komga moves between minor releases slowly — 1.24.0 in January, 1.25.0 in late June — with patch releases in between that are almost entirely EPUB parsing fixes. The two features worth naming are solid RAR4 archive support in 1.25.0 and an SSE heartbeat event in 1.24.0. The rest is fixes to EPUB table-of-contents handling, fixed-layout detection, and the Kobo and OPDS2 integration surfaces.

◆ Where it's heading

The work concentrates where a self-hosted library server actually breaks: malformed EPUBs, archive formats readers assume will just open, and the sync protocols third-party devices speak. Kobo integration keeps taking attention — content restriction enforcement, proxying raw request bodies to the Kobo store — which suggests e-reader compatibility is where the user pressure sits. Translation batches from Weblate appear in most releases.

◆ Prediction

Expect more format-tolerance work on EPUB and archive handling, with the Kobo and KOReader integrations continuing to absorb the fixes that a mature library server accumulates.

AFFiNE
COLLAB
7.5

AFFiNE just cut its AI loose from a fixed provider — bring your own keys, your own models, per workspace.

◆ Current state

AFFiNE publishes from two trains simultaneously — dated canary builds and 0.27.x betas — so the same pull request often appears twice with different version numbers. Most of the recent output is dependency automation: setup-python, actions/cache, RevenueCat SPM bumps. The substantive work sits on the server: blob sync with presigned URLs for S3 and R2, document garbage collection reliability, and now a rebuild of how Copilot gets its models.

◆ Where it's heading

The server is where AFFiNE is investing, and the shape of that investment is self-hosting. Presigned upload URLs configurable per storage provider, doc GC hardening, and now workspace-level model profiles all point at the same customer: someone running AFFiNE on their own infrastructure who wants the AI features without routing content through AFFiNE's vendor of choice. Removing the legacy provider-specific settings in the same change says this is a replacement, not an option.

◆ Prediction

With provider catalogs and managed tiers now in the model, the next moves are likely on the governance side — surfacing which models a workspace permits and what they cost — since the change also stripped token-cost and provider metadata out of public responses.
