What is Jitsi?

Jitsi caps free meet.jit.si calls at 95 minutes and spreads meetings across screens

Jitsi's recent posts pair product work with a change to its free public service. Meetings on meet.jit.si are now limited to 95 minutes, with more changes announced but not described. On the software side, Jitsi Meet gains multi-screen support, following Document Picture-in-Picture, backend tracing and a rebuilt transcription architecture over the summer.

What is Red5?

Red5's autumn run: spec-compliant AMF codecs amid a stream of thinly documented patches.

Red5 is a Java media server built around RTMP. Since mid-September it has tagged 2.0.43 through 2.0.52, most with little or no description. The notable change is 2.0.49, which made the AMF0 and AMF3 codecs spec-compliant; later tags fixed a regression from it, inlined fMP4 packaging and bumped Tomcat. A 2.0.46 security hardening batch landed in late September without detail.

Jitsi caps free meet.jit.si calls at 95 minutes and spreads meetings across screens

◆ Current state

Jitsi's recent posts pair product work with a change to its free public service. Meetings on meet.jit.si are now limited to 95 minutes, with more changes announced but not described. On the software side, Jitsi Meet gains multi-screen support, following Document Picture-in-Picture, backend tracing and a rebuilt transcription architecture over the summer.

◆ Where it's heading

Two tracks are diverging: the open-source stack keeps adding capability for rooms and multi-display setups, while the hosted meet.jit.si is being constrained. The 'more changes are coming' line signals that the free tier is being reshaped.

◆ Prediction

Further restrictions or account requirements on meet.jit.si are the most likely next announcement; the feed does not say what form they take.

Red5's autumn run: spec-compliant AMF codecs amid a stream of thinly documented patches.

◆ Current state

Red5 is a Java media server built around RTMP. Since mid-September it has tagged 2.0.43 through 2.0.52, most with little or no description. The notable change is 2.0.49, which made the AMF0 and AMF3 codecs spec-compliant; later tags fixed a regression from it, inlined fMP4 packaging and bumped Tomcat. A 2.0.46 security hardening batch landed in late September without detail.

◆ Where it's heading

The project is cleaning up protocol correctness and trimming dependencies at a cadence of several tags a month. Documentation remains the weak point: users must read commit ranges to know what changed.

◆ Prediction

Expect further 2.0.5x patches following the AMF and packaging work; the entries give no sign of a larger feature release.
