What is ESPEasy?

One release a year, each one a filesystem or networking rewrite you must plan for.

ESPEasy publishes rarely — five builds across two years — and each one accumulates hundreds of commits. The July 2026 mega build reworked how networking is handled and added support for Espressif's newer silicon: ESP32-P4, -C5 and C61. The 2025 build was the last to ship SPIFFS for ESP32, forcing a LittleFS conversion on everyone who upgrades past it. Release notes are raw commit lists grouped by contributor.

What is ElevenLabs?

ElevenLabs is rebuilding voice agents as versioned software — branches, drafts, compiles, tests.

ElevenAgents now dominates the changelog, and it ships software-engineering primitives rather than voice features: branches, rebase, merge previews, drafts, and per-test tool mocks. Procedures compile into agent workflows, knowledge bases have crawl jobs and bulk operations, and telephony has widened past Twilio to Exotel and SIP. The speech and music models still advance — Music v2, Speech Engine — but they now read as components sitting under an agent runtime.

One release a year, each one a filesystem or networking rewrite you must plan for.

◆ Current state

ESPEasy publishes rarely — five builds across two years — and each one accumulates hundreds of commits. The July 2026 mega build reworked how networking is handled and added support for Espressif's newer silicon: ESP32-P4, -C5 and C61. The 2025 build was the last to ship SPIFFS for ESP32, forcing a LittleFS conversion on everyone who upgrades past it. Release notes are raw commit lists grouped by contributor.

◆ Where it's heading

The project's pattern is long test cycles followed by a build that changes something foundational — filesystem, networking, MCU support — and asks users to back up settings before upgrading. Between those, only hotfixes appear. Development is heavily concentrated in one maintainer's commit stream, with the rest of the contributor list handling docs, build scripts and individual plugins.

◆ Prediction

Given the cadence, the next build is likely months out and shaped by whatever the current test-build issue accumulates; the newly added MCU families are the obvious place for follow-up plugin and peripheral work.

ElevenLabs is rebuilding voice agents as versioned software — branches, drafts, compiles, tests.

◆ Current state

ElevenAgents now dominates the changelog, and it ships software-engineering primitives rather than voice features: branches, rebase, merge previews, drafts, and per-test tool mocks. Procedures compile into agent workflows, knowledge bases have crawl jobs and bulk operations, and telephony has widened past Twilio to Exotel and SIP. The speech and music models still advance — Music v2, Speech Engine — but they now read as components sitting under an agent runtime.

◆ Where it's heading

The company is converging on an agent SDLC: author in a branch, hold changes as drafts, preview the merge, compile, then test against mocked tools. Every release adds another step of that loop rather than another voice. The analytics surface — sentiment scoring, termination reasons, backchannel flags, per-branch call volume — is being built to close the same loop with production evidence.

◆ Prediction

With simulations, tool mocks and is_error failure paths now in place alongside branches and merge previews, the missing piece is a gate: expect evaluation runs that block a branch merge on regression rather than leaving testing as a manual step.
