What is Dokku?

Dokku ships patches weekly, and quietly grows a Kubernetes backend under its single-host roots.

Dokku releases on a near-weekly patch cadence, and most entries are dominated by Dependabot bumps to test fixtures. The real content is thin but consistent: a command injection fix in docker options evaluation, per-app Let's Encrypt emails on k3s, atomic buildpack list replacement, custom chown values, and JSON output added to apps:list, ps:scale and docker-options reports. Several tags in early July were published within minutes of each other and out of version order.

What is Argo Rollouts?

An RC-only feed where 1.9's headline change was reverted before it shipped.

Every entry in this window is a release candidate; no GA tag appears at all. The 1.9 line spent three RCs largely on pipeline problems — rc3 explicitly ships no changes from rc2 — and its one architectural change was withdrawn. That change would have narrowed .status.selector to report only the stable ReplicaSet for traffic-routed canaries so HPA stopped counting canary pods in its desired-replica math. The 1.10.0-rc1 notes are dominated by build and dependency work.

Dokku ships patches weekly, and quietly grows a Kubernetes backend under its single-host roots.

◆ Current state

Dokku releases on a near-weekly patch cadence, and most entries are dominated by Dependabot bumps to test fixtures. The real content is thin but consistent: a command injection fix in docker options evaluation, per-app Let's Encrypt emails on k3s, atomic buildpack list replacement, custom chown values, and JSON output added to apps:list, ps:scale and docker-options reports. Several tags in early July were published within minutes of each other and out of version order.

◆ Where it's heading

Two threads carry through. The scheduler-k3s plugin keeps accumulating what a real platform needs — helm chart previews, autoscaling auth state, control-plane node matching, per-app certificate configuration — which pushes Dokku beyond the single-host Docker tool it started as. The second is machine readability: command after command gains --format json, turning the CLI into something automation can consume rather than parse.

◆ Prediction

Expect JSON output to keep spreading command by command until it is the norm rather than a flag, and expect the k3s scheduler to stay the destination for new capability while the Docker scheduler receives fixes. The patch train shows no sign of consolidating into a minor release.

That change would have narrowed .status.selector to report only the stable ReplicaSet for traffic-routed canaries so HPA stopped counting canary pods in its desired-replica math. The 1.10.0-rc1 notes are dominated by build and dependency work.

◆ Where it's heading

The visible direction is operational rather than behavioural: notifications broadened to Teams workflows and NATS.io, a build system parameterized for company forks, CI skipped for docs-only changes, a move to pnpm. The selector revert says the project would rather live with awkward HPA math than break autoscaling for existing users, so progressive-delivery mechanics stay where they are.

◆ Prediction

1.10.0 looks likely to land close to rc1 — dependency, CVE and notification work with no controller-semantics change — and the HPA selector question stays open unless it returns behind an opt-in flag.
