What is Dagster?

Dagster's declarative automation engine just learned to trigger jobs, not only assets.

Dagster ships a core release weekly on a tight 1.13.x cadence, with most weeks split between component integrations and UI performance work. Two threads dominate the last two months: Declarative Automation as the scheduling model, and Components as the packaging model for integrations — dbt, Snowflake, dlt, Fivetran each arriving as a configurable component rather than bespoke wiring. The 1.13.16 release connects the first thread to jobs, a primitive that had been outside the declarative model.

What is Fluent Bit?

Fluent Bit runs a 4.2 and a 5.0 train side by side, both fed by the same backport pipeline.

Two branches ship in parallel on a roughly two-to-four week rhythm: 5.0.x as the current line and 4.2.x as the maintained one, with most 4.2 entries explicitly labelled backports of 5.0 fixes. The work is overwhelmingly correctness and hardening — memory leaks and over-reads in out_stackdriver, protocol-spec alignment in out_forward's secure handshake, endian-safe gzip magic-number reads, crash fixes in the regex engine and input threads. Feature-shaped changes are narrow: IANA time zone support for native timestamps, label and namespace mapping in out_chronicle, Ubuntu 26.04 packaging.

Dagster
ANALYTICS
6.3

Dagster's declarative automation engine just learned to trigger jobs, not only assets.

◆ Current state

Dagster ships a core release weekly on a tight 1.13.x cadence, with most weeks split between component integrations and UI performance work. Two threads dominate the last two months: Declarative Automation as the scheduling model, and Components as the packaging model for integrations — dbt, Snowflake, dlt, Fivetran each arriving as a configurable component rather than bespoke wiring. The 1.13.16 release connects the first thread to jobs, a primitive that had been outside the declarative model.

◆ Where it's heading

The direction is a platform where orchestration is declared as conditions over data, and integrations are assembled from YAML-configurable components instead of Python glue. Supporting moves point the same way: dg tooling hardening, an MCP server for agent access, and a Components tab that now enumerates every instance in a code location. Alongside this, a steady stream of virtualization and bounded-fetch work in the UI signals that large deployments — thousands of assets, many backfills — are the deployments Dagster is now optimizing for.

◆ Prediction

Expect the job-level automation conditions to move from preview toward general availability, and more first-party integrations to be re-released as components. The entries do not show which integration is next in that queue.

Fluent Bit
ANALYTICS
5.0

Fluent Bit runs a 4.2 and a 5.0 train side by side, both fed by the same backport pipeline.

◆ Current state

◆ Where it's heading

This is a plugin ecosystem being audited rather than expanded — the recurring shape is a defect found in one output or codec, fixed on 5.0, then backported to 4.2 within days. OpenTelemetry handling keeps getting attention across plugins (OTLP JSON in out_s3, unset AnyValue rendering, OTLP log partitioning in out_kafka), which is the one place new capability is accumulating. Windows and cross-platform builds absorb a steady share of every release.

◆ Prediction

Expect the two-branch cadence to hold with 4.2 continuing to receive backports, and OpenTelemetry coverage to keep widening plugin by plugin rather than arriving as one release.
