What is crane?

Crane is turning into the table-and-plot layer for Roche's clinical output stack.

Crane publishes release candidates rather than finals, and the whole of 0.3.2 is carried by a single rc2 body — its two sibling tags are one-line styling commits, one of them tagged with an unsubstituted vX.Y.Z placeholder. The rc2 notes run to dozens of additions across regression tables, line plots and hierarchical rate tables.

What is GitHub?

GitHub is standardising the agent layer it doesn't own, while the model roster churns underneath.

Two tracks run in parallel. The agent platform keeps widening: Agent Plugins 1.0 went out co-signed by AWS, Anysphere, Microsoft, OpenAI and Vercel, persistent memory and local Ollama models landed in Copilot for JetBrains, and GHES 3.22 carries administrator control of Copilot CLI into self-hosted estates. Alongside it the model roster turns over on a near-weekly cadence — Gemini 3.7 Flash arriving, MAI-Code-1.1-Flash replacing MAI-Code-1-Flash on a September 10 deprecation date. The remaining releases are platform hygiene: license data pulled from npmjs.org and PyPI for the dependency graph, comment-level user blocking in personal repositories, and organization-level rule insights.

Crane is turning into the table-and-plot layer for Roche's clinical output stack.

◆ Current state

Crane publishes release candidates rather than finals, and the whole of 0.3.2 is carried by a single rc2 body — its two sibling tags are one-line styling commits, one of them tagged with an unsubstituted vX.Y.Z placeholder. The rc2 notes run to dozens of additions across regression tables, line plots and hierarchical rate tables.

◆ Where it's heading

The package is moving from plotting helpers to a full analysis-output layer: mixed models for repeated measures, pairwise Cox results, risk-management-plan tables and adverse-event incidence rates all arrive in one cycle, and the annotation machinery underneath was rebuilt for reliable table-to-axis alignment. Defaults are being pulled toward SAS and rtables output — the log-rank test now uses survival::survdiff instead of coin, and survfit confidence intervals default to plain rather than log.

◆ Prediction

Expect a 0.3.2 final close behind rc2, and the deprecated g_lineplot() family to be removed once gg_lineplot() and annotate_gg() have settled.

The remaining releases are platform hygiene: license data pulled from npmjs.org and PyPI for the dependency graph, comment-level user blocking in personal repositories, and organization-level rule insights.

◆ Where it's heading

The pattern is GitHub trying to own the interface rather than the model. Individual models are now interchangeable inventory, swapped in and deprecated on a schedule, while the durable investments are the plugin contract, the enterprise controls around it, and the rulesets framework replacing branch protection. Governance work consistently ships paired with its own observability — rulesets got automatic migration and then a dashboard.

◆ Prediction

Expect the model roster to keep rotating without much ceremony, and the next substantive releases to concentrate on enterprise controls over agent plugins — the allowlisting and policy surface that MCP already received.
