python-sounddevice's whole release history is the ASIO licensing problem
This is a small binding released a couple of times a year with one-line changelogs. The defining sequence is ASIO: 0.5.0 removed ASIO support from the bundled Windows DLLs, and 0.5.1 restored it by shipping both variants and letting users select the ASIO build through an SD_ENABLE_ASIO environment variable. Since then the changes have been an explicit_sample_format option for WASAPI, better errors on non-integer arguments, and ARM64 Windows wheels.

The project is moving on two fronts that reinforce each other: making evaluation fast enough to sit inside simulation inner loops, and putting a real application in front of engineers who previously had to write Python to use it. The new tabular backend being off by default in PropsSI says the maintainers are treating accuracy conservatively while the fast path proves out. The GUI's progression from unsigned alpha to notarized and SignPath-signed release in two months is the clearest sign it is meant as a product, not a demo.
Expect the SVDSBTL backend's default-off flag to be revisited once conformance data accumulates, and the GUI to continue on its own version line now that the signing and auto-update pipeline is live.

The package's direction is set by what it can legally and practically bundle rather than by feature ambition. The API is stable and the work is distribution - which DLLs ship, which platforms get wheels - with occasional pass-through parameters added when a host API exposes something users need.
Expect continued wheel-platform additions and occasional host-API settings passed through as PortAudio exposes them. Nothing in these entries suggests API expansion beyond that.
