What is containerd?

containerd ships four security advisories and a tighter default seccomp across four branches

containerd maintains five release branches: 1.7, 2.0, 2.2, 2.3 LTS and 2.4. On October 13 it patched 2.0 through 2.4 for CVE-2026-95839 and three GHSA advisories, three weeks after the CVE-2026-53493 round. The fixes harden inputs an attacker can control: container log symlinks are no longer followed, image references containing '..' are rejected, ID-mapping labels are filtered from image annotations, and the default seccomp profile now allowlists socket domains.

What is Slurm?

Slurm's newest entry is a test case, not a release; 26.05.5 is still current.

Slurm maintains three branches (25.05, 25.11, 26.05). On September 2 it shipped coordinated security releases on all three fixing seven CVEs, including an operator-to-administrator privilege escalation and SQL injection via cluster names. 26.05.5 on October 13 returned to ordinary fixes. The newest feed item is a testsuite commit checking that step cancels in --stepmgr jobs record the job owner rather than root.

C5.0

containerd ships four security advisories and a tighter default seccomp across four branches

◆ Current state

containerd maintains five release branches: 1.7, 2.0, 2.2, 2.3 LTS and 2.4.

◆ Where it's heading

Two coordinated multi-branch security rounds in three weeks show maintenance shifting toward closing untrusted-input paths in image references, annotations and log files. The seccomp allowlist is the one change that can alter runtime behavior, since workloads opening uncommon socket families may now be blocked by default. Feature work stays on 2.4, whose patch line is also fixing pull-time memory growth.

◆ Prediction

Expect a 1.7 patch with whichever of these fixes apply there, since every other branch moved the same day. The entries don't show whether the seccomp socket allowlist will need follow-up exceptions.

5.0

Slurm's newest entry is a test case, not a release; 26.05.5 is still current.

◆ Current state

Slurm maintains three branches (25.05, 25.11, 26.05). On September 2 it shipped coordinated security releases on all three fixing seven CVEs, including an operator-to-administrator privilege escalation and SQL injection via cluster names. 26.05.5 on October 13 returned to ordinary fixes. The newest feed item is a testsuite commit checking that step cancels in --stepmgr jobs record the job owner rather than root.

◆ Where it's heading

Slurm's cadence is monthly point releases on the 26.05 line with occasional coordinated security drops across all supported branches. The test commit points at accounting accuracy for step-manager jobs as current work.

◆ Prediction

A 26.05.6 point release in November is likely, possibly including the --stepmgr cancel accounting fix the new test covers.
