Apptainer
Apptainer 1.6 candidate adds delta images that rebuild only what changed.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of Coder and ESPEasy — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Coder ships the same security backports to three release lines in one afternoon.
Coder's feed now shows supported lines on v2.29, v2.34 and v2.37, the last confirming a v2.37 mainline this feed never captured. On November 3 all three got the same fix set: a gomarkdown advisory, anchored CSRF exemption patterns, a group-sync fix that stops adding users to another org's groups, and a row lock against double-claimed prebuilds. Late October's releases tightened API key scopes, agent credential access and skill file reads.
One release a year, each one a filesystem or networking rewrite you must plan for.
ESPEasy publishes rarely — five builds across two years — and each one accumulates hundreds of commits. The July 2026 mega build reworked how networking is handled and added support for Espressif's newer silicon: ESP32-P4, -C5 and C61. The 2025 build was the last to ship SPIFFS for ESP32, forcing a LittleFS conversion on everyone who upgrades past it. Release notes are raw commit lists grouped by contributor.

The visible work is security hardening applied in parallel across long-lived branches, with most fixes centred on permission boundaries: org scoping, key scopes, agent credentials. The Anthropic retry fix in 2.34 and 2.37 shows AI agent plumbing now ships in the server. Feature releases on the mainline remain invisible here, so the feed reads as maintenance only.
More coordinated backport rounds are likely, as each permission fix lands on all three lines; what v2.37 itself added is unclear from these entries.

The project's pattern is long test cycles followed by a build that changes something foundational — filesystem, networking, MCU support — and asks users to back up settings before upgrading. Between those, only hotfixes appear. Development is heavily concentrated in one maintainer's commit stream, with the rest of the contributor list handling docs, build scripts and individual plugins.
Given the cadence, the next build is likely months out and shaped by whatever the current test-build issue accumulates; the newly added MCU families are the obvious place for follow-up plugin and peripheral work.
