GitLab is turning its platform into the context layer agents and security teams query, not just a code host.

Bitbucket is rebuilding Pipelines as a place where agents run, not just where builds run.
Agentic Pipelines is now generally available on all paid Cloud plans, on Atlassian's cloud runners or self-hosted Linux Docker runners. Around it, Bitbucket shipped task-specific agents for test optimization and cleanup, a connection to the redesigned Atlassian MCP for Claude and Codex agents, and public Merge Queue APIs. A visual refresh of the Pipelines UI rounds out a busy month.
Buildkite drops long-lived GitHub credentials from self-hosted agents
Buildkite's recent changelog fills infrastructure gaps teams used to cover with plugins or custom images. Self-hosted agents can now check out private GitHub repositories with temporary, read-only GitHub App tokens instead of SSH keys or personal access tokens. OpenTelemetry trace context now passes from parent builds to triggered builds without a Support request. October also brought Buildkite Cache GA, cluster-level OpenTelemetry, queue-filtered webhooks and Test Engine workflows in Terraform.

Bitbucket is treating CI as the execution layer for scheduled and event-driven agents, with test maintenance as the first proving ground. Support for outside agents through MCP suggests Atlassian is choosing to host whichever agent teams prefer rather than lock them to Rovo. Merge Queues and on-demand pipelines point the same way: more of the merge path becomes programmable.
Atlassian says more runner types are coming, so expect Windows or macOS runner support for agents next, along with more packaged agents beyond testing.

The theme is removing per-agent setup: credentials, caching and telemetry all move from something each machine carries to something Buildkite supplies. Observability work has stepped from cluster-level config to cross-pipeline traces within two weeks.
Expect more of the remaining on-request options, such as HTTP traceparent acceptance, to become self-serve, following the trace propagation change.
