A side-by-side editorial comparison of Bigcapital and WP Simple Pay — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Bigcapital ships every two days, and the SDK is quietly becoming the second product
Bigcapital is open-source accounting software releasing patch versions every two to three days, each a GitHub-generated list of a dozen PRs. The bulk is repair across banking, reports and the web app — Plaid sync guards, report filters, cache invalidation, base-currency handling. Running underneath is a steady programme on the generated TypeScript SDK, which has been accumulating typed coverage endpoint family by endpoint family, and a slow migration of the web app off Redux and onto typed code.
WP Simple Pay made recurring payments free, betting reach beats gating the marquee feature.
The releases track Stripe's own surface: 4.16 added region-specific local payment methods, 4.13 Stripe compliance controls and required-price options, and older versions layered ACH, Bacs, GrabPay, and multi-item checkout. The standout is 4.14, which removed the paywall on recurring subscription payments. The newest entry is October 2025, so the feed is somewhat stale.

Two things are being built while the fixes flow. First, the SDK is turning Bigcapital into something integrators program against rather than only a self-hosted app, with OpenAPI coverage arriving per endpoint family. Second, the banking side is being made trustworthy: audit logs on banking modules and Plaid webhooks, concurrency guards on transaction sync, queued auto-recognition. Onboarding is being trimmed at the same time, with the subscription step removed from the wizard. Version-only tags mean the work is only legible from the PR list.
Expect SDK coverage to keep advancing one endpoint family per release until it reaches parity with the app's own API surface, and the banking audit-log work to extend from Plaid to the manual reconciliation paths.

WP Simple Pay is competing on Stripe coverage and, with 4.14, on access, trading a premium feature gate for wider adoption. The direction is being the default no-code Stripe form plugin rather than an upsell ladder.
Expect continued fast-following of Stripe payment-method and compliance additions; whether the free-subscriptions move shifts monetization elsewhere isn't visible in these entries.
