Auth0 is replacing its legacy configuration surfaces one at a time, and shipping NIST defaults to new tenants only.

Flexible Password Policy reaches general availability, collapsing five legacy password fields into a single password_options object that covers composition, history, dictionary blocking against 10,000- or 100,000-word lists, and profile-data matching. New database connections have defaulted to it since July with a 15-character minimum aligned to current NIST guidance, while existing connections keep their configuration until an operator migrates them. That sits alongside a fortnight of delegation and administration work: Custom Token Exchange session delegation, Custom Prompts finally applying to social and enterprise connections, Google Workspace group sync reaching GA, organization filtering, and a command palette.

What is HashiCorp?

HashiCorp says provenance is the moat, and Packer is the first product to actually ship it.

The strategic claim and its first concrete delivery arrived a week apart. HCP Terraform was positioned outright as the control plane for AI agents that author and apply infrastructure themselves, with provenance, policy, identity, isolation and audit as the product. Packer v1.16.0 then shipped native SLSA provenance generation and verification for machine images, plus HCL2 additions for provisioners and variables. Underneath, Consul Enterprise 2.0 accepts CyberArk Workload Identity Manager as an external mesh CA, AzureRM provider 5.0 reached GA with opt-in preflight validation, and Terraform gained workspace and Stacks restore.

Two patterns run through this window. Auth0 is retiring ad-hoc configuration in favor of structured objects and then changing defaults only for new tenants — legacy password policies stay supported with no end-of-life date, so the migration is carried by new-connection defaults rather than forced deprecation. Alongside that, the delegation model established by Custom Token Exchange keeps widening, and the recurring theme in the smaller releases is closing gaps where a setting appeared to apply everywhere but did not.

◆ Prediction

Expect the same treatment applied to another legacy configuration surface — a single structured object, GA, and new-tenant defaults with the old fields left supported indefinitely. Whether Auth0 ever sets an end-of-life for the legacy password fields is explicitly left open in this release.

Every product line is being re-pointed at the same question: who or what made this change, and what constrained it. Consul anchors mesh trust in PKI the security team already runs rather than its own; Terraform sells enforcement rather than authoring; Packer now attests what it builds. The consistent concession is that generating configuration is no longer defensible on its own, so the durable position is verification and audit of output regardless of who produced it.

◆ Prediction

Expect provenance and attestation to propagate to the remaining build and deploy surfaces — Vault and Boundary are the obvious next holders of identity and audit in this story — and expect agent-authored changes to become a first-class actor type in policy rather than an afterthought.
