What is Angular?

Angular's 22.x prerelease train is grinding through correctness, not shipping new features.

Angular is publishing a continuous prerelease train, with 22.1 having moved through next.5, next.6 and rc.0 before 22.2 opened at next.0 and next.1. The content is overwhelmingly correctness work: HTTP FetchBackend fixes around aborts, charset handling, interceptor ordering and cookie parsing; hydration trigger initialization after late runtime activation; and pending-status propagation in signal forms. The two genuinely additive items in the window are compiler support for foreign components inside control flow blocks and CSS variable namespacing to the application.

Every developer-experience release in this window reduces the setup tax on that path: no local MCP install, no API keys to distribute, no directory linking. The commercial moves run in the opposite direction, converting previously unmetered Cloud consumption into billed usage with dated deadlines. Self-hosted releases continue in their own lane, with 1.9.6 repairing the upgrade breakage 1.9.5 introduced.

Expect the MCP surface to keep expanding, most likely with authentication and scoping controls for user-deployed tool servers, and expect more previously free Cloud allowances to gain enforced limits ahead of the September 1 date.
